Claiming Racism, Illinois Democrat Cancels Local Civil War Re-Enactment
The Federalist ^ | 6/17/19 | Elizabeth Bauer

This is a fundamental culture clash with politicians being wholly unprepared for a new brand of politics in which even traditional family events become politicized, and one more piece of American heritage disappears. Roughly two years ago, when the uproar about Confederate Civil War monuments was at its peak, the Chicago Tribune reported on a monument to Confederate soldiers far north of the Mason-Dixon Line, in Chicago itself. The monument was at the site of a mass grave of soldiers who died as prisoners of war (POWs) at Camp Douglas, at which more Confederate prisoners died than any other, in overcrowded and disease-filled conditions.

Communists started this and are behind it.

It took decades but the useful idiots are buying it or are too zombified to question.

I am an illinois ex-pat who has helped others escape.
Near West Chicago, Illinois they have a town built solely to hold a WW2 reenactment where Germans come in and the resistance does battle with them. Its a weekend long affair with actors who take great pride and care in the reenactment.

But because it doesnt glorify , queers and homos these low IQ imbeciles do not appreciate nor care about that.

Always refer to a Democrat with the following adjective ...

Racist Democrat.

All Racist Democrats seek conformity and approval,
as they are group thinkers,
... deny them. lol

The G W H Bush Pacific War Museum at Fredericksburg, Texas does or did the same thing but they had enough actual Pacific Vets from both sides to conduct re-enactments of squad level combat on fortifies terrain. The last time I was there the vets were growing few in numbers. Their sons or nephews were filling in. There are quite a few Japanese that live in San Antonio, was surprised to find out. In any case this is a fine museum and I strongly encourage all to visit it, it puts the WW2 Museum in New Orleans to shame.

“Racist Democrat.”

I like it. I also refer to them as the uneducated party. They hate that.

Midway Village in Rockford, IL has these reenactments frequently. I’d be amazed if they knuckled under to pressure.

In passing , this monument is (or was) located at the end of the parking lot of a black funeral home. The owner used to raise and lower the CSA Battle flag each day. Don't know what goes on now. If the Obamanators of Cook County don't want the sacred soil of their city defiled by Rebel remains then they can pay for excavation of the mass of unknowns and return them to some site in Dixie, maybe near to Meridian, Mississippi where the Confederate dead can rest in peace in their own soil.

Maybe if the statues were of Confederate soldiers in advanced stages of rigor mortis and decay, and with the garrison’s guards urinating on their corpses? Would that be allowed to stay? Stupidity is now an art form.

The level of insane self-delusion is very high.

They not only ignore reality, they wish to create their own reality to replace it.

They deem themselves as gods.

That is twisted logic and many leftists have promoted that idea as the primary reason for the war. And it it true that Lincoln did use this reasoning to rally the North and recruit soldiers.

But we can’t forget the primary reason for CW1. It was to “preserve the union”, and crush the “rebellion”. Before that, many believed that States could voluntarily and peaceably opt out of the Union over irreconcilable differences. Not anymore after, and that’s too bad.

So once again the propagandists prevail. Even back then it was all about consolidating and centralizing power.

African-American soldiers are honored in this Civil War Memorial, saluted by the US Secy of Defense for their service.

‘Before that, many believed that States could voluntarily and peaceably opt out of the Union over irreconcilable differences.’

maybe, just maybe, if you’re attempting to ‘peaceably opt out’ of the Union of states, it might be a good idea to not initiate an attack on that Union’s property...

I was surprised at the scope of the museum at Fredericksburg, especially the fact that it houses one of the Japanese mini-subs. If their re-enactment events reflect the same level of work, I'll have to check out the schedule and attend one.

Back when the museum in New Orleans opened as the D-Day Museum, there was a week-long series of re-enactments that included Canadian and British groups. Part of New Orleans' City Park was arranged to look like Allied encampments in southern England before the invasion; other parts were set up to look like foxholes in Normandy hedgerow territory. These days, I think the New Orleans museum puts more effort into expanding its downtown footprint and acquiring or restoring planes, vehicles, and of course, the PT Boat.

One of the events I remember going to was a weekend-long series of parades and small re-enactments (weapons demonstrations and such), celebrating the black veterans of the European Theater. The Tuskegee Airmen, the Red Ball Express drivers - there were all these veterans, in uniform, driven through the city streets in restored vehicles. It was all well advertised, but the crowd that gathered along the parade route was almost entirely white. The local black community just didn't care to show up and honor those men. Even worse, you could see the realization on the faces of those veterans.

BTW, when did they tack the Bush name on that museum? Since his death?

Museum Village in Monroe, NY does Civil War reenactments in September. Also nearby in Campbell Hall at the Hill Hold Museum.

Well I guess it was worth it since the Union got back its fort in South Carolina for the price of 750,000 Americans. Or close to 400,000 Union soldiers if you exclude those pesky rebels.

The law of unintended consequences is a real mind blower. By denying the significance of the historic victory of the Union over the Confederate States and failing to celebrate its importance in human history the city officials are aligning themselves with the animus and bitterness of the defeated South. The Fourth of July was not celebrated in Richmond VA for 80 years because of their sense of humiliation at the hands of the Yankees. The genius of Lincoln’s plan was to not impose harsh war reparations on the South and to take them back into the Union rather than creating a permanent guerrilla war state as exists in many modern states in Africa and the Middle East. Spinoza was dead right. Those who don’t remember their history are doomed to repeat it.

One in 10 of the Union Army was a black soldier. Haven’t any blacks joined the reinactments? If not, they’re being racist.
