It is not just Walmart and Apple. Have you been to any retailer like Home Depot, Lowes, Target, etc. Almost all consumer goods are made in China, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Korea, Mexico, Japan, Honduras, Dominican Republic, etc.

I tried buying a power tool. They all were made in China.
I ended up buying a Milwaukee drill & driver.

I am going to buy a hedge trimmer. The Stihl hedge trimmers are made in Germany. The batteries for them are made in China. The Honda products were made in Japan.

I went clothes shopping prior to my April vacation. I looked at all labels so I would NOT buy anything made in China.
I purchased:
Wrangler Jeans from Mexico
2 pair cargo shorts made in Pakistan
1 pair swim trunks made in Dominican Republic
Hanes under ware made in Honduras
White cotton socks made in the USA. I could not find any socks at Target, Marshalls or another store NOT made in China. I ended up buying them at Market Basket grocery store in the aisle that sells cosmetics, shampoo, toiletries next to the women’s panty hose.

What’s wrong with South Korea? I love my LG and Samsung electronics and appliances.

Nothing is wrong with South Korea or Japan.

I think Panasonic makes some of the best electronic consumer equipment you can buy. I have a 42” Panasonic Plasma TV that will not die. It still has a great picture.

I have a Samsung 32” TV that is average quality.

I was discouraged by salesmen at Lowes NOT to buy Samsung appliances. That they have the most problems. I bought Whirlpool/KitchenAid/Amana/Maytag instead. They are still made in Iowa.

I have never owned any LG products.

Meanwhile, Russia and China have never had a closer military and economic alliance than they do today.

Kind of like Russia and Nazi Germany back in 1939.

Yes! I say this over and over. Nixon was a progressive that in particular sold America out with China. The blame does NOT just lie with Democrats. How often is the obvious espoused even by Republicans - that China is our adversary. I hear vitriol thrown far more at Russia than China by Republican politicians - and I would surmise even by “conservative” columnists.

And we seem to forget the argument, especially ramped up in the 1990s was this would change China into a golden paradise of democracy.

LG makes good appliances even under the Kenmore brand. Samsung makes good TV’s but their refrigerators tend to break after a couple of years(they get leaks in their compressors and/or the heat exchanger/evaporative tubing). Samsung’s phones are good. The Samsung stoves and laundry equipment are built like tanks but are also uber expensive.

My son(21 year old & our techie) says that Samsung phones are the best. My 35 year old daughter (other techie) convinced her mother and I to buy Google Pixel phones. I am on my second(Google Pixel 2). It is incredible, especially the camera.

I have known a local appliance dealer for 25 years. He convinced me to buy Whirlpool/Amana/Maytag/KitchenAid kitchen appliances. FYI, these are all one company now. All of them are made in the same factory in Iowa. They just put different names on them, like Kenmore. My first French door fridge said Amana on the outside and Maytag on the inside. \

The other really good kitchen appliance brand is Bosch. However, my appliance dealer friend said that their dishwashers, while very good and quiet are much harder to repair than the KitchenAid.

Fifteen years ago he convinced me to buy a Fischer Paykel washing machine. It was a top loader with a direct drive motor. No belts. It spins at 10000 rpms. Clothes come out slightly damp. It lasted 6 years. The board died. It would have been $250 just for the part. So, we bought another one. Same thing, after 7 years it died. SO, this time we bought a Speed Queen. I did not know they even made residential machines. They make the machines you see in laundry mats. We have had that for 4 months. It is made in the USA. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, a friend bought a new dryer. They gave us their 20 year old Maytag dryer. I took off the back panel and cleaned it out with the shop vac. I replaced the lint screen collector with a new one from applianceparts.com for $39. It is like new. Plus it is made so much better than the new ones.
