Given the advances in stealthy, hypersonic missile and guidance system technology, does any rational person believe that surface capital ships can survive a war against a technologically sophisticated and equipped opponent? Todays “battleship admirals” will only come to this realization after a steep price is paid with young blood.
I wonder if particles moving at the speed of light could harm something moving 3500 miles per hour?
Echoes of Pearl Harbor.
It all comes down to detection and response. A hyper-sonic missile vs a wall of lead still ends up destroying the missile.
Hypersonic basically means unguided. They can’t really maneuver. Not really a threat to a moving target.
So pal will you officially go on record that it would be smart idea to scuttle our entire Navy then? I know I would feel so much safer without a Navy. /sarc
Great civilizations and empires are defeated from within, due to corruption, demographics and cultural failure.
However, while the USA still enjoys global reserve status, why not continue to run up $x billion annual budget deficits and an $x trillion balance in the national debt?
The name of the game is to ride the wild pony; check logic and common sense at the door. If the MIC wants to develop weapons systems and other fun playthings to feed their fantasy of regional kinetic conflict, who are we to disagree?
In the meantime, the clock is ticking against certain countries that so foolishly believe the false rhetoric that diversity is a strength. Which global adversary most definitely does NOT follow that program? Second question: would anyone be surprised that China is one of the chief culprits financing the demographic destruction of the USA?
Rome was finally defeated by the associated Germanic tribes decades/centuries after it began its terminal decline. Why waste resources against a vibrant enemy, when time will do most of the work for you? Osama was right, people favor the strong horse.
Somehow I doubt that Stealth technology, as a overall concept, overlaps at all with Hypersonic weapons technology. Anything moving that fast is generating a lot of eat as well as a pressure wave (noise).
Anything flying Mach 3 or better is also going to be operating at very high altitudes — not on the deck where today’s ship killing weapons tend to operate. Maybe a hypersonic could do a terminal low-level pass, but the margin of error for obtaining a hit gets a little dicey at those speeds. If youre off even a fraction of a degree on your approach vector you could miss by a significant margin.

However, until they do, the fleet is immensely useful.
