These bills share something in common with all the trash the House is passing these days. Two stumbling blocks:

1. The bills has to get through the Senate, doubtful.

2. The bills have to be signed into law by President Trump. No way that is happening.

Wish the House would quit spending our tax dollars on bills that have no chance of becoming law.

That’s not the point.

This is: 1) Pandering for Millennial votes. 2) What the Democrats will do if they gain control.

If the Democrats win the White House and Senate next November....all these crazy bills the House is passing will end up in law.

Nobody has discovered (especially the millenials), that this was money FOR COLLEGES ... the “students” were only the carriers. The colleges got paid, the students got hung with the debt. And they should pay the piper for being YOUNG and STUPID.That’s part of growing up! (I paid my student loan, it wasn’t easy, but I considered it an obligation, not an option!)

“I won’t hire anyone who allowed their loan to be forgiven. It doesn’t say a lot about that person living up to their commitments.”

AMEN! While these jerks are introducing the Bills, how about giving everyone a $50,000 check. Think how that would stimulate the economy. Don’t worry about the debt that adds to our obscene national debt, we will never pay that off. Maybe those who actually hold the paper will forgive the USA.

I didn’t think so either....

I have a student loan that i still pay on. I borrowed a whopping $1,700. The school took 350 of it. I’ve paid thousands and thousands on that loan. Every time I get the balance within a year of being paid off, they sell the debt and I end up owing thousands more. I can’t get it paid off.

You need to take all that paperwork and find a lawyer. If your loan company sells your loan, the new company can't just randomly add $$ to the balance. They also can't change the terms of the loan unless you agree to it.

FedGov should be out of the student loan / school business except for GI Bill and stuff like that.

Colleges should have to partner with banks (or do it themselves) to offer student loans, with the college being the primary co-signer on at least 50% of the loan amount.

Finally, treat it like a house deed or a car title - don’t issue out the actual degree until the student has paid off the loan. Give em a certificate of completion for the job, but they don’t get the real degree until $$ are done.

One of the last engineers I hired in my old job graduated with a chem e degree from University of Delaware and had $500K of student loan debt. She is currently living with 5 other women in a rented house.

Her ex had $300K with a mech e degree.

Oh. I forgot
I would not get into that kind of debt for any degree. I have put off getting an MBA for two reasons.
1. The cost vs return. Local college has it for $40 to $60K (not sure the variance)
2. They are so common it is not a differentiation anymore.

In my current area, $60K for a shiny hat engineer is the norm.

Big Green Tractors work with local employers to keep the costs down.

My alma Mater had a survey (Iowa State) and while that is a touch lower than nationwide, it is pretty standard for engineers. It is higher than some in the South. My current company has the view that engineers are disposable, replaceable, and cheap.

This is part of the issue. There are higher paying STEM jobs, but like lawyers not everyone gets one of those slots. Most engineers wages have been stagnant since 2008. I am not complaining. I take the coin they offer and it allows me to live where I chose to. But a lot of young people are getting out of school with mountains of debt, lower wages than promised, and this type of bill is very attractive. The GOP needs to address the cost of college.

How long ago was that?

That is now considered a violation of law.

Of course, the FedGov holds the note now. The schools have their money and don’t care.

1972.

Forgot US Gov is now the lender. Didn’t know they couldn’t extort you over hiring any longer.

“The student debt crisis is real and it’s crushing millions of people

Wake me when these morons start talking about forgiving $50k of car payments or mortgages. They should really think about liquidating the assets and grabbing some wages from these ivy league fortresses of cash that sucked down the student loan proceeds and frittered them away on sheepskins for womyxn studies, black-brown-green studies, how to be a tranny and the like.
