Gun Rights Group Targets Trump’s ‘Anti-Gun’ ATF Pick

In a national email, the National Association for Gun Rights announced that the Trump administration just made an anti-gunner the next ATF Director.

Chuck Canterbury is the presumptive nominee at the ATF based on an announcement made on Friday.

According to the NAGR President Dudley Brown, Canterbury has a “long history of publicly supporting and endorsing anti-gun policies, anti-gun Supreme Court nominees, and anti-gun high ranking government officials.”

As President of the National Fraternal Order of Police, Canterbury has supported anti-gun Supreme Court Justices like Sonia Sotomayor and former Attorney General Eric Holder, who ran the notorious Fast and Furious gun running program.

On top of that, Canterbury supported the expansion of the federal government’s gun registration schemes.

Brown reported that Canterbury’s FOP is “currently lobbying AGAINST Constitutional Carry, even though the vast majority of law enforcement officers support the right to carry.”

In Brown’s view, this is “troubling news.”

Ultimately the no compromise leader called for an ATF Director “who wants to tear down gun control, not expand it.”

Brown then promised to keep NAGR members informed of everything that goes on during this process.

“If this is true.....”

Well, there was the bump stock ban. A gimmick, sure, but a federal ban on a firearm accessory nonetheless. Could just be throwing them a bone, but the hair on the back of my neck is standing up a bit.

This is very serious.

Reminds me of when Bush stabbed us in the back.

The FOP has been extremely anti-gun for a long time. They do not represent the ordinary cop.

If the guy is truly an anti-gunner, he should be trashed for it, and his name withdrawn.

Trump isn’t going to get everyone right, but this is an important one.

I don’t believe Trump wants to see further gun rights erosion, despite the bump stock ban.

Presidents get bad advice too, and sometimes they don’t think critically enough.

Trump isn’t going to be perfect. From time to time he may blow one. I would too I’m sure.

I understand where you are coming from.

It seems to us like Trump would hand pick these guys himself, but he gets their names from idiots who have another agenda.

He can’t do all the background checks on his own. He won’t know everything about these guys.

This is a problem all our decent presidents have. Reagan used to get bum suggestions too. Look at Sandra Day O’Connor.

It’s now so much excusing Trump, as it is just addressing reality. I don’t want an ATF guy that hasn’t a clue, or worse has his own anti-gun agenda any more than you do, believe me.

If all the gun laws we have haven’t done the trick, we should be rolling them back if anything. Most of them don’t help at all.

Correction:

It’s NOT so much excusing Trump, as it is just addressing reality.
