"Between Cohen and Michael Avenatti they could give lawyers a bad rep."

Heh heh! Good one.

Q: What's black & brown and looks good on a lawyer?

A: A doberman.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap. So the wind, reap the whirlwind.

This guy has some days of reckoning ahead.

Proverbs 26: [27] He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it: and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return to him.

I don't know the details but read it carefully: "Jay Sekulow told him to say the president’s dealings on a Trump Tower in Moscow ended in January 2016, or before the GOP primary season kicked off. In fact, Mr. Trump’s team pursued the project through June of that year, according to investigators."

More fake news? I do recall from the Congressional testimony that there were a number of hangers-on, including some 3rd party people who stood to profit by a Moscow Tower and one 3rd party who proposed giving Putin a penthouse apartment. The wording of these sentences beg the question whether he was all that involved in some speculative distant project that AFAIK never even got to blueprint stage.

That is amazing! Prov 26 was one of my Bible readings today!

Thank you so much for being faithful.

He’s also a KNOWN LIAR; of course he knows what his obligations are, what makes any body think he would live up to them now.
He didn’t before when he lied.

It often takes years for a project to wind down.

It’s got nothing to do with anything.

There was a lot of media speculation that Cohen would testify that Trump told him to lie. That never had any merit to begin with and was probably the work of Cohen’s attorney Lanny Davis’ team smearing POTUS and trying to get leverage for his client, but IIRC Cohen testified to Congress that Trump never asked him to lie. This story bolsters that fact turns the blame to Sekulow.

So, is this the media attempting to excuse their false claims about Trump and Cohen by saying “we were close, it was JS not DT who suborned perjury”? Or is it the latest in a long line of attempts to damage anyone associated with Trump? Or is it possibly disinformation to erode credibility in the myriad allegations that have been put out there over the past several years?

And here I always thought all lawyers were the same.
LAWYER - LIAR!
Kinda rhymes.

(I’m sure we have a few here on FR, so I did kinda paint with a broad brush)

Right, there are bankers, brokers, developers, architects, engineers, lawyer, builders, land owners, management company, consultants, politicians, lobbyists and many other people involved in such a project. They take years to start and finish and with so many interests there are always people pushing to get it done. They all wanna get paid.

The article says “Trump’s team” worked on it until June. But that is not really the question at hand. JS is accused of urging Cohen to say that Trump personally stopped working on it. And that may in fact be true. Since it was clearly headed nowhere by June of 2016, it is not hard to imagine that in January 2016 Trump himself relegated the noise to others. Trump was very obviously interested in other things in the winter of 2016.

Projects have inertia, it takes time to get them started and time to end them.

This would have been a good thing to tell the judge, or Mueller for that matter before he was convicted and sentenced...Guess it slipped his mind...

It could be that Cohen was turned a long time ago. When the Feds come to you and say you better do this for me, or else, you might dance to their tune.

If you remember, Cohen paid off 2 women w/o consulting Trump. Trump repaid him when he was made aware and he used his own money unlike 99.9% of other politicians.

My question exactly. He wasn’t president yet. So even if he was still looking into a Trump tower in Russia, he was not breaking any laws. So why would anyone tell him to lie?

Yes, I completely agree. My only point was about the central allegation in the article and my recollection of Cohen’s testimony in Congress. He said Trump never told him to lie - but the media told us that he would say exactly that in the days preceding his testimony.

Now there is this twist, *maybe* he is accusing Jay Sekulow. Except, he really isn’t at least not according to the excerpt I read. The allegation is that JS told Cohen to say Trump personally stopped working on the project in January. They don’t even suggest that this is a lie. The evidence in the excerpt is just innuendo. The excerpt says “Trump’s Team” worked on it until June. But that isn’t a refutation of the allegation. Trump may have in fact ended his personal involvement in January while various other executives and hangers on either winded it down or tried various schemes to revive it behind the scenes.

JS is a smart guy and skilled lawyer, and if I could bet on it I’d bet that there is zero evidence that Trump had anything to do with this project after January... in other words no emails, no memos, no phone records etc alluding to this project came from or went to Trump personally after January. I’d suspect that this is just another media innuendo stretching both ends of the truth to make the appearance of an untruth where none exists... just like the FBI et al tried to set up Trump Junior, Page, Papadopoulos, Flynn etc to create the appearance of ‘collusion’ where none existed.

In any case, it has nothing to do with Trump. They are smearing JS with innuendo - again typical of the effort by far too many deranged people to damage anyone connected to Trump.

Correct. There is no reason to lie. As I wrote above I suspect there is no lie or at least no evidence of a lie at the heart of this story. JS is too accomplished an attorney to fall into that trap - to lie to cover up a perfectly legal act - and I’d bet that there is no evidence that Trump personally worked on this project after January (e.g. that what JS asserted, if he asserted it, is true). Others may have worked on it until June but Trump likely had no involvement and/or no record of involvement. And at the end of the day JS would have no way to know what Trump did or didn’t do. He would go by the evidence.
