I remember, many years ago, that the Univesity of Washington (Seattle) had tried to do something similar with admission. You got points for some things, and you would get minus points for other things.

I remember this because I was outraged that people whose parents were married, got dinged; but, if your parents were not married, you got extra points. So, doing the right thing for your kids got your kids a negative result from the college. It is nuts.

Also, please rmember, this is going to be hitting Asians as well as Whites, perhaps hitting Asians even harder.

Students won’t be told the scores, but colleges will see the numbers when reviewing their applications...

Nothing says transparent like a secret score on people.

Harvard and Yale are not institutions of education anyway, and law school is a waste. It’s better to send your kids to community colleges, where they learn useful skills, and let them study literature and philosophy on their own time on the subway train or bus to and from work. As for law, better to go back to the old method of clerking for a few years and then taking the bar exam. It’s still how it’s done in Virginia.

Anybody have any figures as to how many go that route?

and how many states still allow it?

They don’t do this in China. The future belongs to them.

The SAT is only to exclude white people. Whites need to stop participating with the SAT.

To your point, there is a logarithmic difference in grades. A 4.0 takes 10 times the effort of a 3.0, and 100 times the effort of a 2.0.

Employers still use college as a checklist item, so it is always a best practice time include it on a resume.

“And don’t expect great results in surgery.”

When the Bakke decision came down in 1978, I was actually in DC for a seminar for students between their junior and senior years in high school. I got back home a few days later and my father, an oral surgeon, sat down with me to discuss it.

He said that he had known, and did know, many minority doctors - and that they were ALL excellent, to a person. Some were women, and he reiterated that they were excellent doctors. However, he said that when I would go out on my own in the future, that if I was going to a doctor who was about 10 years older than me or less, that I should make sure to choose a white, male doctor. He said that it pained him to say that, because those 2 factors should be irrelevant in determining whether a doctor was good or not, but that this decision virtually guaranteed that people not qualified to be doctors (or who certainly wouldn’t be the best) would now start coming out of the medical and dental schools. He said that the tables had been turned - up to now (i.e. 1978), there had been discrimination against minorities and women, so those minorities and women who still - despite the bias - were smart enough to make it were usually a cut above the average white male. Now that the tables had turned, he said very clearly that the white males will have to be far better than average to make it into med/dental school and to get the residencies that they needed to go into surgery. Of course, he said, no average person can possibly know whether a particular person was actually good enough (or even spectacularly well-suited) to get into med school or not, and that those who were would be forever tainted with the broad brush of Affirmative Action.

I remember him being really, really ticked off about it, because a doctor should be a doctor first, not a member of some tribe or gender. THIS is what the liberals have done, he said - made everyone question those minorities and women with actual ability who have worked hard to achieve their position. This was the exact opposite of what they claimed to want, but he called them on it...it was no accident, he said, it was done on purpose. Leftists lie, period.

It was a valuable lesson for me - a bit of a bitter one, but nonetheless valuable.

Oh, and Bakke was supposed to be temporary. So when, exactly, do we eliminate these quotas? Isn’t 40 years enough?

SAT scores are now worthless and colleges will have to find a new standard for admissions.

The face-to-face go/no go questions,
if it’s a ...

Black male: Who’s your momma?
[Caution. Never ask who is the father]

Black female: Can you put off having kids a semester at a time?
[Caution. Are you kidding me?]

White woman: Where are you parked?
[If in front of Coolidge Hall, disqualify]

White male: Who will win next year’s Oscar for leading man?

Last I checked, California you can clerk for four years if you have a four-year-degree. New York, you can clerk for four years if you have a four-year-degree and a year of law school before you start clerking. I don’t remember what Missouri has. I researched this decades ago, before I decided not to become a lawyer. But it’s all written in the American Jurisprudence Desk Book, or something.

the “bum” down the road might beat you out of YOUR place in college cuz he did all the opposite things.

And the bum will have to drop out because they don’t have the drive to do the work for the benefits of a higher education. Or faculty will just pass them and the degree won’t mean a thing. Either way it’s humiliating to the person given the advantage this way.

A real eye-opener for me years ago was realizing that people who don’t speak proper English rarely read/write it (in my ignorance, I assumed regional/ethnic accents/dialects were just that - and soon realized people that speak poorly aren’t just lazy - they are simply uneducated).
