German authorities raided Deutsche Bank’s headquarters Thursday amid suspicions that its employees helped clients set up offshore companies that were used to launder hundreds of millions of euros.
About 170 police officers, investigators and prosecutors swooped in on the bank’s offices in Frankfurt and premises in nearby Eschborn and Gross-Umstadt at 10 a.m. (0900 GMT), seizing electronic and paper records.
The investigation emerged from an analysis of documents leaked from tax havens in recent years, including the 2016 “Panama Papers,” said Frankfurt prosecutors’ spokeswoman Nadja Niesen.
It is focused on two Deutsche Bank employees, aged 50 and 46, and possibly other still unidentified suspects, she said. At least one site raided was a suspect’s home.

Offshore corporations have one main purpose - to create anonymity.
Recently leaked documents reveal that some of these shell companies, cloaked in secrecy, provide cover for dictators, politicians and tax evaders.
I’d call it income evasion.
I was watching some German news piece along about 1998. German border folks had stopped this German couple in an RV driving over the bridge into Luxembourg. Went through the whole RV....they had a coffee can with 40,000 D-Marks (around $20k). Guy was a plumber and had weekend work where cash was paid. This was his half-year take. Apparently, the couple had an account there and hid the income.
From the trade and craftsmen, I’ll bet more than half of them have safes in their basement and easily have 100,000 Euro stashed away that never gets reported to the government for taxation purposes.
One of my first posts on Free Republic described a Mastercard issued by a Cayman Islands bank carried by Hillary Clinton, the wife of Arkansas governor Bill Clinton. She used the card to pay for everything. The card balance was paid every month by tax free funds in an illegal offshore bank account
It was of course speculation but undoubtedly true. It was almost amatuer in nature. Her off shore efforts have been magnified in scale and scope a million times over

When I lived there (and worked at a German bank) I asked naively, “Why doesn’t the government do something about it?”
Once the laughter died down and I was still bewildered someone finally had mercy on the innocent American and explained with a question, “Who do you think has the MOST money going offshore out of anyone?”

You don’t have to read it but to summarize, he said he was declaring war on the obama administration.
And he was a progressive Buzzfeed writer!!!
And NO ONE believes it was an accident.
