Colorado Democrat targeted for recall resigns amid reports of sexual-misconduct allegation

A Democratic state legislator in Colorado facing a recall effort over her anti-fracking vote announced Sunday that she has resigned following allegations reportedly stemming from a sexual-misconduct complaint.

State Rep. Rochelle Galindo, who was elected in November, posted a statement denying the allegations without providing details, but House Speaker K.C. Becker said they were related to accusations of sexual misconduct outside the state legislature, according to 9News in Denver.

Colorado Public Radio said that the Greeley police confirmed that a report “was filed against Galindo last week by a woman who worked on Galindo’s campaign. The contents of the report are sealed.”

Ms. Galindo, described by her supporters at EmergeColorado as “the first Latina LGBTQ millennial to serve in the State House,” represents a district in Weld County, the heart of Colorado’s booming fossil-fuel business.

I’m shocked that she did not sue the republicans.

Tried to get herself a Huma Abedin-style work/travel-wife. Why am I not the slightest bit surprised?

How is she going to be replaced? Does the governor appoint a replacement (obviously a dem) who would then be able to run as an incumbent? Or will a special election be held?

A Weld Democrats vacancy committee will decide Galindo’s replacement. At this time, it is unknown who will serve on the committee.

IOW, by resigning now, the Dems are guaranteed to keep the seat. Which would not be the case if the was recalled.

What I am waiting for is for this woman’s behavior to be blamed somehow on California! Near as I can tell, she’s either “home grown,” or came from Texas but the data isn’t clear!

Colorado Democrat targeted for recall resigns amid reports of sexual-misconduct allegation

Exactly the same course taken by Colorado state senator Evie Hudak back in 2013. By doing so, she prevented an election to choose her successor, and put that choice in the hands of Democrat John Hickenlooper.

Hudak was one of three Colorado legislators who got kicked out of office because they went along with NYC Mayor Nichael Bloomberg's anti-Second-Amendment "Mayors Against Illegal Guns." She's the one who demonstrated her arrogance against ordinary voters in this exchange, with rape victim Amanda Collins:

Collins: "How does rendering me defenseless protect you against violent crime?"

Hudak: "Thank you for sharing your story - very, very unsettling."

Hudak: "I just want to say that actually statistics are not on your side. For every one woman who used a handgun in self defense. You said that you were a martial arts student, and yet because this individual was so large he was able to overcome you even with your skills. And chances are that if you had had a gun then he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you."

Collins: "Respectfully Senator you were not there. I was there."

Collins: "I know without a doubt in my mind that at some point I would have been able to stop my attack by using my firearm. He already had a weapon - he didn't need mine."

When it became clear that Hudak was not likely to survive a widely-supported recall election, she resigned. As far as I am able to determine, Evie Hudak has not yet returned to politics.

When it became clear that Hudak was not likely to survive a widely-supported recall election, she resigned

State Rep. Rochelle Galindo is following the same pathway. It was clear that she was not likely to survive a widely-supported recall election in her district after her support of the anti-fracking legislation that was just passed in Colorado.

The sexual harassment charges against her are a minor issue and will most likely be dropped or settled out-of-court.

By resigning, she saves the seat for the Democrats. Democrat Governor Jared Polis will appoint her replacement from whomever is selected by the Weld County Democrat vacancy committee.

These criminals are not children. Sealed records should not be allowed, particularly when the criminal is employed by the People.
