I wouldn’t be so quick to reflexively come down against law enforcement in cases like this. It’s a delicate question with conflicting answers. When a “journalist” receives information that was disseminated illegally he isn’t just a journalist anymore ... he’s also a witness to a crime — and potentially complicit in the crime, too.

For those who won’t click:

The reporter’s story was regarding the death of a public defender whose career specialty was POLICE CORRUPTION.

When he simply kept saying, “lawyer, lawyer, lawyer” they held him in CUFFS for 6 hours.

When breaking into his home with a sledge hammer, guns drawn, the warrant was for, “stolen or embezzled property” —yeah, for INFORMATION he was TOLD.

San Fran is verrrrry liberal.

“When fascism comes to America it will be dressed-up as liberalism”

I forget which 60’s liberal radical said that.

What are the chances the cops didn’t KILL that Public Defender..?

IT CAN HAPPEN IN AMERICA

Welcome to the world of democrat selectively enforced laws.

Violent illegals treated with kid gloves.

Those who don’t conform...

“About 10 officers from the San Francisco Police Department were bashing the front gate of his home in the Outer Richmond neighborhood with a sledgehammer, he said. It was just after 8 o’clock in the morning.”

Reporters don’t deserve any special protections. That said, this reeks of retaliation.

“as investigators searched his home, then his office, where they found the report in a safe.”

Sounds like it was a little more than TOLD.

Single-party rule leads to corruption. The larger the jurisdiction and the longer the duration, the worse the corruption is. Eventually, dead bodies start to turn up.

In the ‘60s and ‘70s, there were movies made about it. Mostly they were set in the Deep South.

Doesn’t have to be there, though.

Hmm! this reporter had a front gate on his property.

Has he been pro illegals and bums in SF streets/parks in the past.

No I don't agree with the invasion of his home, but "bashing the front gate of his home with a sledgehammer", makes one wonder.

If you break into my home, expect to be greeted by rifle fire from a 30-30.

It sounds like civil war among liberals. A bunch of girly men hitting each other with their purses.

All fair. But in this case, the police didn't ask for the reporter to hand over the "illegally-obtained property." They asked for a source. He didn't cave.

Then the police, not having asked for the report, come crashing into his home with a warrant for the report, handcuff him for 6 hours of questioning (presumably without his lawyer present), and probably didn't cleanup the mess they left.

The police have a tough job and are disliked by leftists and many patriots. It's not easy trying to serve and protec nowadays. I get it. But these tactics over a Public Defender who died like John Entwistle do not strike me something to which the Founders would give a cheery two-thumbs up.

His first amendment rights to not protect him from criminal conspiracy charges

He was handcuffed for five and a half hours according to bakersfield.com =>

“A receipt certifying his release from custody confirms he was handcuffed from 8:22 a.m. to 1:55 p.m.”

When the liberals are in charge, everything is fair game. Their agenda subordinates free speech, privacy rights, attorney-client privilege, due process, the freedom of political association, freedom of religion, property rights, gun rights; literally every right granted to free people by God or man. It’s futile to point any particular one out as they’re all in jeopardy.

Didn’t the Pentagon Papers case pretty much give reporters the green light to publish anything they choose to no matter how much it hurts the country?

Exactly. Liberals are so sure they are smarter than everyone else in the room, so sure they know what is best for everyone...they are all too willing to buy into the ends justify the means when they are so sure their ends are the savior of all of us. Those of us that actually like liberty and diversity (from their BS) are dangerous and in the way. Liberals are the most fascist people around.
