Maybe they can start registering and charging bicycles too. Plenty of those on the road now.

Many folks buy these coal-burning cars just for the HOV lane stickers.

Electric car owners are naive to think the states are going to meekly give up the gas tax revenue.

They will render unto Caesar one way or the other. LOL

Connecticut new tax raising governor - Needless LaMont- wants to put tolls and raise gas tax, because the gas tax - which is SUPPOSED TO be used for Highway improvements - was put into the general fund... Why not stop screwing the taxpayers, Illinois (and Connecticut)?

This is a great idea to make sure electric vehicles will never become the norm. Not even if they come with a self-charging solar station and go 300 miles between charges.

I suppose they could place a 10 cent per mile tax on each e-vehicle but they would mean big brother having an electronic connection/tether to that car or motorcycle. Even dumb leftists aren’t too fond of that idea.

I thought Illinois was progressive and would want to encourage EV (electric vehicle) ownership

Why is it the more Democrat a State is, the higher the gas taxes and the worse the roads.

Half that is simple corruption, the other half is sheer stupidity.

For example: Today driving on I 95 in New Jersey in a rent-a-car I passed road construction removing toll booths. They have upgraded to computerized pay by licences plates.

Sounds good right? But wait, it has been Democrat designed

As you drive around the demolished Toll booths and pass under the bank of cameras there is a sign that says dial **826 to avoid penalties. Right at the lane change...

I juggled my phone and dialed and got a Welcome to plate pass pay, that is after the dial one for Spanish voice mail system...

The long winded message informed me to go ahead and drive, they got my licence number... then later went on to ask me if I wished to avoid penalties would I like a text message to instruct me on how to pay online... I said yes, and low and behold as I wove between the narrowed construction lanes lined with concrete barriers, I got a text message! How handy while driving in a “construction zone, all fines are doubled” area the next orange sign says.

If you read that text message it contains a handy clickable link to the pay online system website.

Not being a total fool I gave up at the text message recieved sound and decided to read the text later. Of course there was a Police Cruiser parked on the side of the road next to the do not drive while using a hand held phone sign to spot people who were using their phones as instructed at the last sign in the construction zone.

At a rest stop 20 minutes down the road in Connecticut, I dug out my phone and navigated through the website to the “driving arental car?” section and filled out the SEVEN PAGES OF FORMS to pay my $2 toll fee. Took me ten minutes. Glad I didn’t forget because last time I did not spot the Dial **856 sign and had to pay $50 bucks for being a delinquent toll payer.

You see, they decided that if you are not local it is not cost effective to look up your address and mail you the bill. Of course when I did not pay the non bill within 30 days from the due date the fine was $50 bucks. That it seems was cost effective to mail me.

So the toll itself is $2 bucks for the crappiest roads in the USA.

If you dont do what the dont tell you to do the fine is $50 bucks

If you do do what they tell you to do it can cost you $400 bucks and you can loose your licence. Truly the most do do choice is to follow their instructions.

Or,

They could reinstall the damned toll booths and complete their highway robbery in 15 seconds.

“It’s outrageous,” Tesla owner Nicoletta Skarlatos, 56, told the Chicago Tribune. “I thought Illinois was progressive and would want to encourage EV (electric vehicle) ownership.”

This is a progressive tax by definition, dear. A progressive tax is one that ensures that wealthy people pay more than poor people. Mission accomplished.

‘Leftist Logic’ — as in NONE

Not to worry, when the electric car owner sees the bill, after just a few years, for their Replacement Battery they will feel much more the fool for buying into the hype.

Hey, Skarlatos! How does it feel to be buttf*cked by your own “progressives”? Wanna say “Thank you guys, can I have another”?

You got what you voted for so sit on it.

It’s for the planet dontyaknow....all good things that already cost too much must be taxed at a higher rate ebcause those who buy them are willing to pay “a little extra” of that feel good money....

Electric cars don't use gasoline. Gasoline taxes fund highways. Electric car drivers, of course, shouldn't be able to avoid paying their share. Everyone should be equally outraged about how poorly highway funds are used.

Passenger rail isn't happening in the US. That could be done, and effective, if the powers that be didn't like lots of money going to deep pocket construction companies that (sort of) maintain roads.
