Attorney General Bill Barr on Friday said he named Ed O’Callaghan to temporarily serve as acting deputy attorney general in the wake of Rod Rosenstein’s departure from the Justice Department.

O'Callaghan, who served as Rosenstein’s principal deputy, will be the second in command at the Justice Department until the Senate confirms a new deputy. Jeffrey Rosen has been nominated, but not yet confirmed, for deputy attorney general.

DEPUTY AG ROD ROSENSTEIN SUBMITS RESIGNATION

“Ed is a top-notch attorney whose intellect, competence, judgment, and experience are evident in every task he takes on,” Barr said in a statement. “That is why I have asked him to serve as the Acting Deputy Attorney General until the Senate confirms Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein's successor, Jeffrey Rosen. I am confident that Ed will be an excellent Acting Deputy Attorney General during this interim period."

Currently, he’s the Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General.

Looks like he’ll be moving into RR’s spot?

Wasn’t he the second guy — with Rosenstein — standing behind Barr a few weeks ago at the Mueller report press conference?

Dems can hold up the vote on Rosen until May 15.

Probably just a favor to O’C to get DAG on his resume.

Maybe RR’s next gig has a reason for him starting right now.

I guess ethics and morals are not in the equation.

I posit that ANY holdover from Schrub or the BrownKlown administrations are tainted goods and should be fired.

Some people choose to work for the Federal Gov’t.

If one could only work for a Republican admin, they’d be changing jobs every 4-8 years.

He resigned in 2008 from law firm to work on McCain’s campaign. He also was the lawyer for Palin to help with her brother-in law ethics issues which was Trooper Gate.

He is listed as a Republican.

I think Comey’s got an “R” next to his name as well. Oh, so to does Jerry Rivers. In today’s political climate, having an R or D next to your name means jack squat.

It’s not really “a wake” caused by his departure. It’s not like the guy was fired. He retired. This was not a shock.

Who is O’Callaghan?

Funny. That's the exact same question my magic 8 ball asked on May 22, 2018 (almost a year ago).

See what my magic 8 ball had to say about him then when nobody had heard of him.

Who is Ed O’Callahan?
"Acting"
[Ed]
DECLAS_ Pain.
Enjoy the show.

And now look, he's acting AG, almost as if by magic. And some people say my magic 8 ball never "predicts" anything. My magic 8 ball is goooood.

It's my belief that O'Callahan was put in place to be the 'minder' of [RR] and was slated to take his spot (temporarily) when [RR] got the boot. And this was set up long ago.

He was "researched" by certain people on the internet and the consensus is that he is a "white hat", despite what certain people here might think.

This is a good thing.
