The GOP’s increasing embrace of Trump’s Russia conspiracy theory (it's not a theory)
The Washington Compost ^ | May 11 at 9:25 AM | Aaron Blake

On Friday, the former general counsel of the FBI, Jim Baker, decided to speak out. Frustrated by the burgeoning Republican narrative about how the Russia investigation might have been launched under false pretenses and with nefarious motives, the previously quiet top FBI aide stepped onto the public stage.

“There was no attempted ‘coup,’” Baker said at the Brookings Institution. “There was no way in hell that I was going to allow some coup or coup attempt to take place on my watch.”

He added that he stepped forward because he “just became sick of all the B.S. that is said about the origins of the investigation.” Baker, who left the FBI in 2017, said he wanted to “reassure the American people that it was done for lawful, legitimate reasons.”

Whatever legitimate questions might be asked about the process for obtaining Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants or the Justice Department’s initial inquiries in the Russia probe, it’s worth noting just how long this “coup” narrative took to build on the political right — and how much GOP leaders initially eschewed it.

Then-House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) first injected this into the public bloodstream via the so-called “Nunes memo,” which raised questions about the surveillance of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. At the time, the “coup”/“witch hunt” narrative (which generally hadn’t used those words but occasionally implied such an effort) was largely the provenance of President Trump and some of his most conspiratorial defenders.

Every member of,and supporter of,the Rat Party is a Swamp Creature. That's true regardless of where they are and regardless of who the support themselves.

A noticeable percentage of so called "Republicans" are Swamp Creatures as well.

And message to Mr Baker: I defy you to explain "POTUS wants to know everything we're doing"...that being one of the many,*many*,texts that the FBI originally claimed had been deleted. And I defy you to explain the e-mail that Susan Rice sent *to herself* about *15 minutes* before the President was to take the Oath of Office!

You,Mr Baker, have just revealed yourself to be either a Swamp Creature...or someone who wouldn't recognize a "coup" if it bit you on the a$$.

Either way....decent Americans have no interest in hearing what you have to say!!!

It IS a theory. It also happens to be a probably true take on events. Being a theory does not imply that it is untruth or fantasy. Einstein had a theory. So far it appears to be true. All our advanced physics is based on it so if it is not true then the whole of our science is built on smoke.

Good. I am glad Baker has shown up.

He is so good at explaining things.

So maybe he will explain, if there was no attempted coup, why the FBI used Steel’s claims, paid for by Hillary, for FISA warrants even after they were known to be false.

Maybe he will be so kind as to explain Peter Peter Strzok,s emails.

And I am sure he can explain the dims refusal to accept Mueller’s report an why the dims are acting like irrational spoiled children lying about their past conduct even though the facts are clearly against them.

Please do, Mr. Baker.

I noticed that most of the 109 comments to that Washington Post article (as of May 11, 2019) didn’t mention anything about the reliability of Christopher Steele dossier (especially the claim that Michael Cohen went to Prague). If those people continue to insist that there was nothing improper about the FISA warrants on Carter Page, those commenters have lost all credibility and they are proven to be stupid.
