Multiple GOP Senators Defend Richard Burr and his Decision to Subpoena Donald Trump Jr.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) wouldn’t speak about the subpoena itself, but defended the character of Burr in leading the Intelligence Committee. “I support his leadership and think that he has done a good job,” she said, the Washington Post reported.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida), another member of the committee, also defended Burr’s leadership, and questioned whether some of his colleagues understood that their work was different from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation that concluded earlier this year.

“Mueller is a criminal justice investigation. Ours is an intelligence investigation about the Russia threat and about the way our agencies performed,” Rubio explained.

Others, like Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Missouri), noted that the committee has called back other witnesses to appear before it for another round of questioning. “I think his brother-in-law [Jared Kushner] came in in a similar situation to be sure that every question was clearly understood and clearly answered, and I think he [Trump Jr.] should too,” Blunt said, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Honestly, it makes me sick to see such idiots on our side of the isle.

We knew who they were before this, but it’s just shocking to see people this stupid in positions of authority.

It's grandstanding by idiots, but I think all the complaining about it makes it look bigger than it is.

Don Jr. should just go testify for these idiots. He needs to have top dollar lawyer next to him, to warn him of perjury traps and the like - but just answer their stupid questions and ask a few cutting ones of your own.

Grassley and Romney, too. It’s all theater. The Senate GOP is all in on hamstringing POTUS and his MAGA agenda.

These Senators, Blunt, Shelby, Collins and Rubio are just like the DemonCRAPs dropping a load on the putrefied sidewalk of the political landscape. This subpoena of Donald Trump Jr is just such a load.

I’m very surprised that many, many more didn’t express their true feelings. I really think the GOPe believes once Trump is gone everything goes back to the way it was. Trump continues to perform CPR on the Republican Party, once he walks away the party is dead. I only hope Trump leaves us some conservative workers party to fill the void.

Damage is done even without a perjury trap. “Jr. subpoenaed by GOP committee.” talking points of the day.

Why the subpoena? If the committee wants someone to testify, the gentlemanly thing would be a simple invitation to appear. If the person “invited” declines, then issue the subpoena. A political body issuing a subpoena can only be interpreted as a hostile act and tacit accusation of wrongdoing.

The real question is: What surprise does Mark Warner have for this hearing and is Donald Trump Junior walking into a perjury trap? Perhaps Trump Junior should take the Lois Lerner approach. Read an opening statement vetted by his attorneys and then plead the 5th. Show the committee the same contempt they’ve shown him. As the Lerner case showed, there are no repercussions from pleading the 5th to Congress.

They are getting rich. They don’t care if a few of them lose elections and are prematurely retired to K Street lobbying millions. In their arrogance they mistakenly assume the party can run new candidates and the beat will go on.

Never Trumpism has changed the GOP forever. There is no going back now.

I don’t care about the political appearances Donald Trump junior should absolutely go in there tell them that he is asserting his 5th amendment privilege and tell them they all can go to hell.
