For the first time, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue has featured a model in full burkini and hijab.
Halima Aden, a Somali immigrant who came to the U.S. when she was seven and who was born in in the African nation of Kenya, was photographed at her birth nation’s Watamu Beach by photographer Yu Tsai.
“I keep thinking back to six-year-old me who, in this same country, was in a refugee camp,” Halima said. “So to grow up to live the American dream and to come back to Kenya and shoot for SI in the most beautiful parts of Kenya–I don’t think that’s a story that anybody could make up.
“Sports Illustrated is proving that a girl that’s wearing a bikini could be right alongside a girl that’s wearing a burkini. And as women we can come alongside each other and be each other’s biggest cheerleaders,” the model told ABC News.
Halima made news when she became the first contestant to wear a hijab on the Miss Minnesota pageant. She became a semi-finalist and earned a contract with the IMG Modeling agency.

I don't consider Christianity or Judaism to be even the slightest bit "oppressive".
But wearing a hijab means: I support sharia. And guess what: sharia is for everyone.
At least the women who wear that burkini will be fashionable and modest while they are being forcibly drowned in an honor killing.
Drowned? Or maybe having acid thrown on them or buried in the ground and stoned. Or wander into the wrong sect of islam and...so many ways. So many.

Isn’t the “burkini”, the “hijab”, the “chador”, and all these other covering Islamic women’s clothing just another subtle form of oppression?
Seems like a lot of Muslims feel threatened by female sexuality, and so try to repress it with clothing that hides hairstyles, legs, arms ... this is the opposite of liberating

Isn’t the Swimsuit Issue supposed to feature sexually, physically alluring photos of women? I do not understand the point.
She IS wearing a bathing suit. that is the ONLY CORRELATION. What is the purpose of including it in the issue?
Unless the sole purpose of the swimsuit issue to to photograph swimsuits that are available on the market ...for sale.
