RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- With one week left before North Carolina teachers march in downtown Raleigh, the state teachers union has laid out its five demands for state lawmakers.

- More support staff
- Medicaid expansion
- $15 minimum wage
- Reinstate retirement health benefits
- Restore advanced degree compensation

**SNIP**

"Even though we are young, we are certainly aware of our need to plan for retirement," Wing said. "And if these benefits are cut, the future teachers will either change careers or look to teach in other states."

**SNIP**

"The far-left NCAE has changed the goalposts year after year," Phil Berger said in a statement.

[I don’t recall any of my teachers having ANY “support staff”]

When I was in school back in the 70’s, once in a blue moon you had a “teachers aid” in maybe one class. They were typically new teachers assigned on a part time basis. Oh and my classes were typically 30-45 kids.

What do the minimum wage and Medicaid have to do with teachers?

Judging by my younger friends who have (or had) kids in Wake County schools, the trend toward home/private schooling is acceleration. They are pulling their kids, especially boys, out of the system. These are folks who have steady incomes and are involved and care deeply about the welfare of their children. They just cannot stand by and let this radical communist machine psychologically destroy their sons.

They used to be called custodians.

Seriously, it seems the less teachers do, the more people they need.

They would have a lot more leverage if they were actually teaching all students to read and write at grade level instead of pumping those naive heads full of global warming nonsense and anti-Trump propaganda. Heck, I think they should be paying the parents for social experimentation on their children.

Social engineering Is deeply embedded in the government school systems.

The Dept of Education is not Constitutional and should be dissolved and the states should be in charge.

But with giving ultimate control to the towns and cities.

Local level control is a must.

Each union teacher can and is being replaced by a website at 10 times higher quality at one tenth the price.

TEACHERS ARE OBSOLETE ...

And Replacement Migration ensures that.

I have a friend who lives on a NC teachers pension and health insurance plan. He has never said anything contrary about it and in fact, has said how thankful he is to have good retirement benefits.

Thanks! You are 100% right. In the 1970’s when the USDOE was established, the U.S. had the number 1 ranked academic system in the world. As of several years ago, we were down to 27th, and probably still falling.

The minimum wage demand has nothing to do with teachers, by the way... the upper echelon union goons have their pay keyed off of the minimum wage, so that call for $15/hr is to help the richest union goons tens of thousands more dollars per year.

See my post #17. The minimum wage is not for teacher’s aides, it’s for enriching the top union admin positions.
