Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hopped back on Twitter Wednesday night — after a few “unplugged” days visiting her “abuela” in Puerto Rico — and immediately called out the president.
Her return came just hours after President Trump posted a tweet saying he agrees with the freshman congresswomen on her claims that the Department of Veterans Affairs “isn’t broken” because, according to him, his administration fixed it.
“Just got back from a few (mostly) unplugged days visiting my abuela in PR, and I see the President is tweeting about me,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Just another day at the office!”
The New York lawmaker added, “I rep one of the strongest concentrations of veterans in NYC. The Bronx VA provides excellent care and community for our vets, who sing its praises. The way to improve VA care & reduce wait times (which can be shorter than priv care!) is by fully funding it – not privatizing it.”
Trump expanded the VA’s private health care options last year when he signed the MISSION Act into effect.
“If the VA can’t meet the needs of the veteran in a timely manner, that veteran will have the right to go right outside to a private doctor,” Trump said at the signing ceremony.

Dang! I missed her return. Oh yeah, I don’t twit so I didn’t know she left to come back. Snooze ya lose, I suppose.
But can someone tell me, why can't veterans simply go to any hospital or doctor of their choice and let them put it on a health debit card or something? Why do they have to go to a VA? Is it because the doctors at a VA specialize in veteran treatment (like war wounds, shrapnel, PTSD for example)? Why even have TRICARE?

Tricare is for retired only, not veterans of less than 20+ years. Nothing to do with the VA AFAIK.
I do not use the VA, I pay for my own healthcare. Many cannot afford that and use the VA.
My father spent years working for the VA and it soured my opinion long before I was eligible to use them.
I messed up 40+ years ago not trying to get a claim for my damaged hearing. My understanding of the VA was that they would likely out-wait my patience with foot dragging.
Only real experience with the system was trying to get a VA home loan. They refused to accept my wife’s income to qualify because “she was still of childbearing age”
I doubt that AOC is actually doing the tweeting. The people behind her must be trying to reset her public image. It’s all image over substance.
