William F. Weld is not likely to become our 46th president. But he was here in New Hampshire, no other Republicans were and that was something.
I think its important to at least call out the current incumbent of the White House on his simply amazing behavior, and for the pettiness, his vindictiveness and the unreconstituted meanness he displays, Weld was telling the crowd who had turned out to see him on a rainy Sunday afternoon in March at a house party in the town of Dover. Fergus Cullen, a former chairman of the state Republican Party, was hosting the gathering in his honor.
Weld, a two-term Republican governor of Massachusetts more than two decades ago, is 73, tall and slim with a mop of orange hair and a face the hue of Pepto-Bismol. A Harvard and Oxford graduate, Weld worked in the Reagan Justice Department but quit over a series of ethics scandals involving his boss, Attorney General Ed Meese. He ran briefly for governor of New York after leaving Massachusetts, endorsed Obama in 2008 and raised a bunch of money for Romney in 2012. He has written thrillers, dabbled in historical fiction and was last heard from in 2016 as the vice-presidential running mate to the Libertarian nominee, Gary Johnson. He sets off some dilettante alarms.
But he was the only Republican candidate who had announced his exploratory plans he would officially declare his candidacy in April to run against Donald Trump in the 2020 Republican primary. This made him the lone official vehicle for the aspirations of a persistent group of Never Trump Republicans. For the better part of two years, they had waited for a premium primary challenger to come along from a fantasy field of Nikki Haleys, Ben Sasses and Mitt Romneys...

Weld is an asshole so are the writers at NYT. They just discount the people who voted for President Trump and support him they can all go to hell.
Sorry about the language.
We know the press will kiss his butt because he hates Trump... pretty disgusting stuff.
Born an Indian national by her Indian national parents.
Not a natural born citizen.
The obligatory "ethics scandals" that the Democrat Media has been attacking Republican administrations with for decades.
And Weld cut and ran like the yellow-back coward that he's always been...
All these never Trumpers are doing is If they get on the ballot they hope to pull enough votes away from Trump to try to hurt him. They are the lowest scum on earth.
Trump enjoys 90% support from Republicans. If Weld somehow wins the primaries thanks to cross-over votes allowed by the RNC, what do you think is going to happen to Trump supporters?
The GOP fundraising will instantly come to a screeching halt. Many conservatives like myself will simply stay home. I won't even vote down-ticket in Congressional or state races.
It would be the equivalent of Russian Roulette with all bullets in the revolver chamber for the GOP if they allow this sick exercise to happen.
Weld? He’ll get 1%, and they will be Dem crossovers.
“endorsed Obama in 2008 and raised a bunch of money for Romney in 2012”
The Nevertrumpists would be pleased with that outcome. They believe that we deserve socialism as punishment for having supported Trump. And then somehow Ben Sasse will win the Presidency and undo the socialism after we have been impoverished, publicly humiliated, and incarcerated.
Remember when the Libertarians decided to pick a state, then state by state takeover after that?
Welcome to N.H., the first state they took over. Large Libertarian presence. The fact that they support Weld, who wanted Hillary to win in ‘16, says it all.
Thank God small ls are Conservatives with common sense.
“Is Rhonda McDaniel fine with this crap?”
It’s Ronna Romney McDaniel, she’s Mittens niece. But you are right on about the RNC. If it were the DNC, Weld would have had a “come to Jesus meeting” with Party official. Face it, this is the last gasps of the BOOSH Cabal. Daddy is in the ground, “W” and “Little Yebbie” are pi$$ing into the wind once in awhile, but little else.
Time to eviscerate the ol’ backstabbing RINO guard at the local level.
Libertarians are effectively opinionated, counterproductive assholes as far as small-gov, conservatism goes.
The small ls deserve a better identity — and I’m one of them — though, I’m registered Republican nonetheless.
“The small ls deserve a better identity”
Yes they do. Unfortunately, they are tarred by the large L brush. That’s just so wrong. I’m an Independent, but had to switch to R for the election as well.
Weld was telling the crowd who had turned out to see him on a rainy Sunday afternoon in March at a house party in the town of Dover.
Lying skank media doesnt give any estimate of the crowd that turned out to see Weld, but the crowd fit in someones house.
God, I despise the liars in the MSM.
Think about what you just wrote. God help us if we need party permission for people to run in the primaries. Do you think Trump would have been approved by the party.
At this point, you want multiple people now to join to dilute the anti-Trump vote.
Why the barf alert?
It’s the Republican resistance to Trump that’s 95% of the problem.
Trump is very fortunate if this now-pathetic loser is a primary opponent. There was a time, decades ago, when Weld was legitimately a good governor for MA.
