Why are there any bias/discrimination laws anymore? (since you can declare that you are anthing you want to be)

Whether or not someone can do the job for you is what’s important.

And if the government says transgender people are 100% entitled to the presumption not of "equality" but of "identicality" with sexually unadulterted Americans, you can bet the organized left will inundate thousands of churches with completely insincere transactivists not the least bit interested or needful of any "job" other than suing their church employers for the purpose of tearing them down, just as they have done by intentionally targeting Christian wedding vendors for harassment, impoverishment and destruction. Don't be naive and think you are libertarian or virtuous.

Yes, that’s how I based my hiring decisions. Hiring is a crap shoot, anyway, so doing so based on whether or not I thought they could do the job was better than nothing. Everybody has to eat, you know.

I’ll embrace that particular naivete, if you don’t mind.

For someone who objects to intrusive government, what’s your excuse for telling me what or what not to think?

I need no excuse; I am not your government. I am a free person trying to help you out of your thought prison.

If you think meritocracy is a prison,
you have more problems than I can help you with.
Have a better day, if you can.

I do not think employers can / need to / should look into the sexual mores of their potential employees.

If their potential employees can or would keep their sexual mores to themselves. But that time is long past. The expensive, job-killing and business-reputation-harming lawsuits that are going on are from obviously masculine trannies "identifying" as women yet retaining their man parts, and insisting on using the same women's room as female co-workers and customers; employees who are hired as one sex but demand healthcare coverage and tolerance for sex change operations, etc etc -- many of them test cases set up by activists with the intention of bringing down Christian businesses such as Hobby Lobby. Once established in law, the same hyperaggressive legal techniques with regard to food and clothing as well as sex can also be rolled out to desecrate Orthodox and kosher establishments. This is how traditional marriage was destroyed by the Supreme Court on down -- by small increments of test cases.
