unacceptable - their CO needs to be fired.
This isn’t Mexican territory. Hop! This is Mexican territory, Pancho. Now what you gonna do about it? Hop! Note the distinction? Bear it in mind next time. ‘bye.
Unacceptable? Yes! Unacceptable that these Third World banditos would do that. But as for firing the CO...I'm not so sure.
But one thing I *am* sure of is that our Secretary of Defense should personally contact their Minister of Defense and make it clear that the next time something like that happens things won't go well for their banditos!
None of us were there and there’s nothing about the soldiers’ take on this, let’s think about that before demanding punishments. I’d be a lot more upset if the soldiers were arrested, taken to a Mexican jail, and it took a week of negotiations to get them back. That didn’t happen, the Mexican troops talked to them and then left.
Why should their CO be fired if he wasn’t even there. Also, the guys there were trying to deescalate the situation, apparently successfully. The Mexicans my not be so lucky with their command response. I have a son in special forces so I pay attention to these things. Also, firing is not the alternative, a court marshal would be the appropriate response if there was a suspected serious breach of protocol.
There were six of them against two of ours.
