New satellite photos published by ImageSat International (ISI) revealed that the Russian military has been deploying ballistic missile systems in Syria, according to the photographs, which are surface-to-surface missile systems capable of reaching 500 kilometers (310 miles).

The Russian army has been training the deployment of an Iskander missile system at the Russian Air Force base in Syria, the Russian news agency IRNA reported.

The Iskander missiles, or the SS-26, are ground-to-ground missiles designed for a range of 500 kilometers. These missiles are very effective because of their accuracy and because of their heavy warhead weighing about half a ton. The range of error of these missiles is about 5-7 meters.

The Russians have used these systems in many cases, mainly as a political deterrent. For example, the Russian army has placed SS-26 missile systems in the Kaliningrad enclave on the Baltic coast, threatening Europe. This has often led to a diplomatic crisis between Russia and the United States.

They’re trying to get rich America into an expensive, pointless war belonging to a different country:

Hopefully they’ll fail.

But a lot of people are trying their best.

Maybe Putin thinks the Samson option doesn’t include a few dozen aimed at Moscow.

Remember, ISIS wanted to take over Syria.

Russia is supporting the president of Syria.

The missiles are relatively short range and are most likely being used against ISIS targets.

If Israeli intelligence determines that the missiles are for killing Israel the IAF will destroy them no matter their origin.

Israel wouldn’t hesitate a second on hitting Moscow if they knew they were about to be attacked by a directive from Russia.

Contingency plans for self defense of the Israeli State are out there for such extremes.

Yes, but -

Netanyahu and Putin, by all reports, have very good rapport and have met many times in the last few years. The angst is perhaps overblown.

Isaiah 17:1-3 1A prophecy against Damascus: “See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. 2The cities of Aroer will be deserted and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one to make them afraid. 3The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and royal power from Damascus; the remnant of Aram will be like the glory of the Israelites,” declares the LORD Almighty.

I believe that what I said the way I said it will work out that way- if Israeli intelligence...

If during the Barak Hussein years the US had made a deal to put missiles in Syria that Israeli intelligence then determined were to be used to threaten or to hit Israel the IAF would have attacked them.

Exactly.
Putin is playing a stupid game here.
Too many chances for a mistake that could cost 100’s of 1000’s if not millions of lives.

Last week’s Israeli attack was in the Aleppo region north of Damascus - the Russian S-300-400 batteries sat it out again.

The SS-26 is a SCUD replacement and is of 1970s tech adopted by the Russians 12 years ago. Designed to hit small high value targets.

“The launch carrier vehicle carries two missiles, rather than one. And each missile can be independently targeted, in a matter of seconds. The missiles can be retargeted during flight not only against fixed targets, but also against moving targets, such as a tactical missile launcher, a tank column, or a convoy. The Iskander has another unique feature: the optically guided warhead can also be controlled by a coded radio signal, including from an AWACS or an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). This provides a self-homing capability. The missile’s onboard computer receives an image or images of the target. Then the missile, by locking on the target with its sights, will travel towards it at supersonic speed.”

I wonder if he simply couldn’t afford to hold a base in Syria without selling nuke plants to Iran and ballistic missiles to Syria (where is Syria getting their money?).

Otherwise whats the point?
