A couple days ago, former prosecutor Andrew McCarthy had a stunning piece on the arrest of Julian Assange and what that could really mean for understanding what was going on with the Russians during the 2016 elections that Democrats made such a stink about.
In a piece for Fox News, he wrote:
Prior to the publication of the stolen Democratic-party emails and internal documents, Julian Assange and WikiLeaks exhorted Russian government hackers to send them “new material.”
That is what we are told by Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s indictment of Russian intelligence officers. (I won’t offend anyone by calling them “spies” — after all, they were just doing electronic surveillance authorized by their government, right?) Assange wanted the Russians to rest assured that giving “new material” to WikiLeaks (identified as “Organization 1” in the indictment) would “have a much higher impact than what you are doing” — i.e., hacking and then putting the information out through other channels.
But time was of the essence. It was early 2016. If Hillary Clinton was not stopped right there and then, WikiLeaks warned, proceedings at the imminent Democratic national convention would “solidify bernie supporters behind her.” Of course, “bernie” is Bernie Sanders, the competitor who could still get the nomination. But if Assange and the Russians couldn’t raise Bernie’s prospects, WikiLeaks explained, Mrs. Clinton would be a White House shoo-in: “We think trump has only a 25% chance of winning against hillary . . . so conflict between bernie and hillary is interesting.”
McCarthy goes into a deep legal dive and asks why Assange isn't also being charged as a Russian agent, making lots of sense.

The Russians wanted Bernie - a committed pacifist who probably wouldn't get into any confrontations with Russia other than a few tut-tutting words to please the NGOs, and who was a socialist who spent his honeymoon in Moscow. Just for old time's sake, Bernie was attractive.
So the Russians wanted Bernie Sanders elected president in 2016 all along...
No surprise. They probably thought the aging idiot would be easier to deal with than the vigorous tycoon, Trump.

The Russians, Chinese and what have you want the best chance to have America fall so that their own brand can rise. The best chance comes through those with the worst policies, best suited to bring down the U.S. as a superpower.
They want Democrats to win, every time. It’s been this way for ages.
NRO writer McCarthy is chagrined that some Trump supporters don’t buy the ‘Russia hacked the DNC’ narrative as written by Team Mueller...and having Julian Assange discovered in bed with the Russians keeps that flawed narrative afloat.
The only people who benefit from this “story” are establishment enemies of Trump.

I agree. I don’t believe anything anymore that isn’t verified over, and over, and over, by diverse people without a specific related agenda. Why would the Russians not want Hillary? She gave them access to uranium. She helped cause turmoil in the Middle East. She and her husband could be bought. What would be the downside for them?

So, if I get some information from a, let’s say, a Brit who is associated with MI6 and who gets info from Russians associated with their government, then I should be charged as a foreign agent? Hmmmmmm, who do I know that did that?
We already know Hillary colluded with Russia, as well as other foreign governments she was friendly or well “allied” with to damage Trump. It would be hilarious if Bernie was also colluding with them to sabotage Hillary. In short, everyone BUT Trump was colluding with foreign governments.
Monica, a usually great commentator, has swallowed a whale here when she uncritically states that the Russians were the ones who purloined the DNC emails by hacking them. In fact, it was probably an internal leak because they were extracted at a speed far higher than could be done over the internet, probably by an insider (Seth Rich??) using a thumb drive directly connected to the server. Why else would the DNC deny the FBI access to the server and use its own contractor?
Bernie was probably colluding with Assange to sabaotage the Witch by having Seth Rich, his guy, extract the DNC emails with a thumb drive and send them to Wikileaks. The only ignorant naif in the whole thing was DJT.
Exactly. I really don't think he had a clue just how dirty politics is at the highest levels, and that people would literally kill, steal, and betray their country to grab power. Now he does. Let's hope he can put that knowledge to good use.
