Sen. Ted Cruz Says Closing US-Mexico Border ‘Would Be Devastating To Texas’ (doesn't have to be)

WASHINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – While he has expressed support for President Donald Trump’s plans for a border wall, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said in a statement he is against closing the border to slow the flow of South American migrants and asylum seekers.

“Closing the border to legal commerce would be devastating to Texas. Millions of jobs, in Texas and across the country, depend upon trade with Mexico, and the federal government shouldn’t do anything to jeopardize those jobs,” Sen. Cruz said.

This doesn't have to be the case at all. Trump could shut down the border to immigration ONLY and let commerce still flow freely.

Initially, I supported Cruz due to his “apparent” support of the Constitution...but it was a weak support, at best.

When Trump came down the escalator and said he rejected ILLEGALS invading America, I jumped on the train and been a YUGE supporter.

Trump is the first pro-America president since Ronald Reagan...and our last hope to save America, our sovereignty & our Constitutional Republic.

Sorry Ted. Compared to the strain on our resources to provide for these illegals, the cost of lives taken by illegals every year, the amount of drug deaths connected to the illegal flow of drugs over the border, the cost of treating diseases and parasites that these illegals bring with them when they come, how can you possibly think that shutting the border could be any more devastating than what it has already cost this country, and Texas?

I like Ted, and I'm sympathetic to the fact that his constituents would take a disproportionate hit - but he's on the wrong side here. We MUST REGAIN control of our southern border, whatever it takes.
