Russian academic linked to Flynn denies being spy, says her past contact was ‘used’ to smear him

A Russian-born academic who was at the center of attention in 2017 for past contact with former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn told Fox News in an exclusive interview that she is not a spy for Moscow – and, to the contrary, believes she was “used” to smear Flynn.

"I think there's a high chance that it was coordinated, and I believe it needs to be properly investigated,” Svetlana Lokhova told Fox News.

"I'm not a Russian spy and I have never worked for the Russian government," the 38-year old historian and academic said, in an interview first broadcast on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” "I believe that General Flynn was targeted and I was used to do it."

Lokhova said the U.K. academic group behind the dinner included American Stefan Halper. The professor, who did not return emails from Fox News seeking comment, is widely reported to be a confidential source in the FBI's original probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Halper also reached out to Trump campaign aides including Carter Page, George Papadopoulos and Sam Clovis.

Halper is also at the center of a whistleblower complaint filed last summer that alleges government contractor abuses, as well as excessive payments with taxpayer dollars.

It appears that Flynn, like Papadopoulos and others, was set up by Stefan Halper. The same Halper who was being illegally paid $600,000 by the Obama administration through a slush fund.

One of the many examples of the absence of scandal during the Obama administration.

I think Mike Pence softened up Flynn calling him a liar and that made him a marked man for the Dems to go after.

I never doubted the Gen. I can see where he didn’t trust Pence with intel, I still see Pence as a GOP regular from the Ryan, McConnell wing of the GOP.

Flynn should get a pardon. He owes 5 million in legal bills
and the GOP owes him some help with paying that off and since he lost his home, we should at some point rectify that. Flynn is a hero and deserves no less.

I have never believed Flynn did anything wrong. He was an ex-spy. He knew he was being monitored all the time, because he knows that world. There is no way he said anything to the Russians he should’nt say, he would know both our spies and their spies are listening in all the time.

As for Pence, I lost faith in him when he threw Flynn under. It looks to me like Flynn fell on his sword to protect Pence, for that matter.

Flynn was Trump’s security advisor. He may well have thought that, if you want to know what I said, ask the president. It’s need-to-know. He made the mistake, though, of thinking he was talking to colleagues when he was talking to FBI and Pence, when in fact he was talking to snakes.

It was worth a double post. I agree, pardon Flynn and place him back in a job where he can serve the country.

I don’t trust Pence either, I am thinking he screwed the pooch accepting the FBIs version of something, and mistakenly calling Flynn a liar.

I totally agree. There are some here on this forum who have it in for the General. I hope their animus is just a honest difference of opinion. They seem to be very comfortable with throwing him to the wolves.

IMO Trump is waiting for the IG report prior to releasing the unredacted material. That may be a mistake.

He was the Director of the DIA. If there are two people on the planet that know more about the USAs ability to spy on people it would Gen Flynn and Adm Rogers. They picked the General because he was working for the President. Nothing more. If Adm Rogers had become the President NatSec Advisor, then he’d be the one with $5,000,000.00 in legal bills.

That's what I believe also. And I believe Comey is at fault.....again.

Go back to the Comey memos....The President asks Comey to "let it go"...."He's a good guy". Remember....this only according to Comey's memos...which he himself "created".

Recently, he said he believed this was "obstruction" on the President's part.

BUT....more recently, he said about it...."I don't know what was in his mind."

He seems to be using this "in his mind" thing as "Get out of jail" card.

Watch this lying, leaking sob CAREFULLY. He is screwing up.

But, if your Pence and you have the impression that the FBI, especially a Dep Director, is as pure as the driven snow and they present some type of evidence, what are you going to think? Either that or Pence is/was on it and was just doing his part.

When you think about it, Pence is the polar opposite of the President. The President talks like a guy from Queens(one of the reasons the media and Left have no idea what he’s talking about and makes them crazy). I grew up in that area. When he says things I just chuckle, where as the Ivy League academics, Maddow, CNN, MSNBC, et al are clutching their pearls, aghast at what the man just said.

Pence, is the polished, seemingly rehearsed politician. I mean, when the worst thing that the media can say/ask about you is, why won’t you meet a woman alone, then you know you’re all about the optics as much as anything else.

With regards to a pardon. Good Lord I wish the President would do that. Convince someone like Adelson to pay off the debt and give the man his house back. And then offer him his old job back and take the leash off. Tell him to go through DC like a Berzerker Viking on PCP.

The swamp doesn't know what Trump has. Why should he show his cards before the Muller report comes out?

The swamp does know what he has. Schiff has seen the FISA warrants, the Ohr 302s, and the Strzok Page texts. He was also part of the Gang of 8 Intel group along with Warner, Pelosi, and Schumer.

What they don’t know is what the IG report has. Trump may have an idea of what they have.

In retrospect I have no doubt the FBI set up Gen Flynn. The “Bureau guys” were excellent at set-ups like that. Flynn is a victim who should be pardoned now that the picture emerges.

Democrats are skilled at making the innocent take the blame.

I don’t know much about Flynn but Lokhova sounds credible. As for Pence he is by all accounts a pompous neocon globalist. Would give a run for a money to others of his type in previous administrations before him.

In the months following the 2014 dinner, Lokhova said there was no sign of concern, providing Fox News with a May 2015 email indicating the U.S. government tried to set up a similar event with the Cambridge group, including Lokhova, to host a new senior intelligence agency head.

Then in December 2015, Flynn traveled to Moscow as a private citizen and was paid $45,000 to speak at a Russia Today event where he shared a table with President Vladimir Putin. Allegations later emerged that Lokhova -- who said she emailed with Flynn a few times after the Cambridge dinner -- discussed traveling to Moscow to act as a translator. She flatly denies the allegations, saying, "There was absolutely no discussion of going to Moscow with General Flynn."

Unmentioned is that just one table over, was former CIA man Ray McGovern, head of VIPS, and a supporter of JOHN KERRY. VIPS was a group which got involved in the CIA Valerie Plame / Niger yellowcake controversy which eventually took out Scooter Libby on a process crime while letting the leaker off Scot free.
