Trump Retreats on Health Care, Saying Republican Plan Will Appear After the 2020 Election
NY Times ^ | 04/02/2019 | Eileen Sullivan and Maggie Haberman

President Trump announced that Republicans would not present a health care overhaul proposal until after the 2020 election, punting on coming up with a replacement for the Affordable Care Act, which the administration is currently fighting in court to invalidate. The issue now will dominate presidential campaigns in the months leading up to the 2020 election.

Mr. Trump announced his new timetable in a thread of Twitter posts late Monday, putting off one of his biggest campaign promises until, the president hopes, he is re-elected.

“Everybody agrees that ObamaCare doesn’t work,” began Mr. Trump, who went on to add that Republicans were “developing a really great HealthCare Plan with far lower premiums (cost) & deductibles than ObamaCare.”

He said a vote on it would be taken after the election, “when Republicans hold the Senate & win back the House.”

It was not immediately clear on Tuesday what the Trump administration would do if courts ruled in favor of abolishing the health care system established by President Barack Obama. Last week, the Trump administration broadened its war on the health care law by arguing that the entire Affordable Care Act should be invalidated. If the law were abandoned, at least 20 million people could lose their health insurance. A court battle could stretch past the 2020 election.

Mr. Trump described a future Republican proposal as “far less expensive & much more usable than ObamaCare.”

Last week, Mr. Trump declared that Republicans would become the party of health care, a promise Democrats immediately embraced. On Monday, Mr. Trump maintained that position, but said Republicans would pass a new law once they won back both chambers of Congress in the 2020 election, victories that are not foregone conclusions.

Nothing he proposed was going to pass the current House anyway.

Once again we are letting the Leftists frame the argument. I don’t want to talk about how to “replace’ Obamacare, I want to start what is going to be a long process of getting the Federal Government the hell out of the health care business. That is the only fix that will ever work.

It is not the government’s job to provide us with healthcare “plans”!

Get the government out and the free market (with some antitrust controls) will finally be able to give us the best possible for the least.

I don’t think people will fall for it a second time. He already ran on fixing healthcare with a GOP House and Senate — and came up (largely) empty.

Unlike the Dumbocrats who waste time on legislation that has no chance of passing.

Would be nice if they at least championed healthcare options outside of O-Cares web. Kinda like how home-school and private school are options away from public education. Although we all still pay the tab, some can avoid the results.

Why not? A healthcare overhaul needs time to be developed decently. And, there’s no way any Trump-promoted plan would ever get through Pelosi’s House, anyway.

Closing the Border according to Kushner was just a pressure tactic to get Congress to change the immigration laws,so much for shutting the Border down, all The squish advisors President Trump is listening to are not giving him good advice.
Making statements and then backing off, recipe for losing

This is called "punting on the issue."

ObamaCare is now officially a "third rail" in politics, and nobody wants to come up with a plan to fix it because health care as we know it CANNOT be fixed.

Nobody believes the GOP has any intention of fixing this after 2020. They already had their chance in 2017 and 2018, and we saw what a farce that was. They've been lying about repealing ObamaCare for almost ten years.

...

If the NYTimes were honest the headline and article would be about the obstructionist Democrats.

The insurance, pharmaceutical and health industry lobbists are giving all of the marching orders, apparently.
The entire congress is exempt from this.. or has everyone forgotten. I hear a lot of anti socialism rhetoric, but this should be made clear to American citizens: congress exempts themserlves from healthcare and insider trading.. why?
But no, once again, even after justice Roberts has been exposed, the GOPe is still pursuing more socialist programs.
Its like the border rhetoric.
In truth, the GOP held all 3 branches and did nothing, except force the prez into executive orders. I didnt like executive orders under obama, and dont like them now.

#1 issue for Democrat voters? Healthcare. #1 issue for Republican voters? Immigration. Result? The Democrats want to talk about healthcare, and the Republicans want to talk about ....... healthcare. Republican voters have no representation. The Mueller Report is a nothing. Back to The Wall.

You can’t have it both ways: Trump solved it *and* he’s going to run for a second time in 2020 to solve it with a GOP House and Senate.
