Poland was in the way of getting to the Ukraine. It was scheduled for movement to the East. And even more so, it had taken “German lands” of Gdansk and “Posen”.
You are correct and I was wrong about Hitler calling Poland an abomination - you correctly state that he referred to Czechoslovakia that way
Thanks for adding to my post, FRiend Hornbeck. I couldn’t agree with you more.
“As the German army retreated from Ukraine in 1943 and 1944, some 350,000 Germans were evacuated to the Warthegau region of West Prussia and thence to Germany. After the Soviet Army occupied part of Germany in 1945, some 250,000 Germans from Ukraine were deported and confined in labor camps in Soviet Asia. On 13 December 1955, they were amnestied and allowed to live anywhere in the USSR except their former homes.”

Warthegau region was is in Poland not Ukraine. And the 250k Germans, while larger than I had thought, were still less than 1% of the population of Ukraine in 1945
You may be right. I’ve seen variations but don’t recall the labels. Similarly ‘empanada’ means different things in different countries.
You’ve got me craving one of my mother’s [RIP] heavenly *holubtsi*. :)
