102-year-old mobster: ‘I never hurt nobody that was innocent’
NY Post ^ | 03/28/2019 | Lee Brown

Longtime Colombo under-boss John “Sonny” Franzese is the living embodiment of the ultimate mob rule — bragging in an interview about refusing to rat despite it making him the oldest federal prisoner at the age of 100.

Wheelchair-bound Franzese, now 102 and living in a nursing home, told Newsday about his life of crime — and how he stuck to the “Goodfellas” adage of “Never rat on your friends, and always keep your mouth shut” despite facing 50 years behind bars.

Speaking as someone who grew up around this thing, the minute you partake you are hurting innocent people.

There’s lots of ways of hurting people without “hurting” them.

Knew a guy who once laughed about kicking an old man he robbed down a flight of stairs.

and Tony Montana killed his best friend and destroyed his mother’s and sister’s lives. That’s more in line with the Mafia I know.

BTW, this 102 year old’s son, I believe is the relation, left the mob and became a Christian and goes on lecturing tours.

Did he mean — He never hurt nobody that wasn’t innocent? /s

he has spoken like that for 95 years.
I figure He has never said “I never hurt innocent people”

Reminds of the Clint Eastwood exchange in "Unforgiven" --

Kid (after killing his first man): "Well ... I guess ... I guess he had it coming, huh?"
Eastwood: "We all got in coming, kid."

If he’s a Calvinist, he has everyone covered. We are all guilty. There is none righteous, no, not one.

That would be his son Michael, a very interesting former mafioso himself. He came up with a way, along with some guys from the Jewish mob, to rip off gasoline taxes and made a ton of money. Hundreds of millions. Perhaps the mob's biggest scam ever. The bosses got jealous and his dad was willing to toss him under the bus when things got tense. Yeah, great guy.

He got caught and pled guilty forfeiting millions of his earnings. I don't believe he ever ratted anyone out. After serving his sentence he married a christian woman and was born again. He has spent much time speaking at various churches, christian events and television shows about his past and his conversion. Some contend it's just another scam but he's been doing it a long time and seems very sincere. I'll certainly give him the benefit of the doubt until he gives me reason not to.

Long time prisoners tend to look young. Lots of sack time, and little sun damage.

Michael Franzese left the mob when he was busted for his gas tax scheme.

To become a capo you usually have to have a murder under your belt.

But if pop is enough of a big shot, just like with anything else, requirements can be waived .

Does murdering dinner meals count? Because if so- I have a few contenders who think the smoke alarm is a kitchen timer

A regular Buddhist. Believes in Karma, when he does bad things to people it’s because they deserve it.

You can rise being an "earner" or being muscle. Mike was an earner. Guaranteed Mike put more money in those guys pockets in just 10 years than his dad did in his entire career.

Was it Sam Giancana who said that Joe Kennedy was the biggest crook he ever met in his entire life?

That’s true.

I wonder if you still have to have a murder on your belt to be “made”.

That was a hard and fast rule as few as I knew up until the 90s.

And with Sicilians coming over by the hundreds to take positions of power, I assume it still exists.

Some of my favorite movies are mob movies, but the truth is that all of this mafia stuff has been romanticized without deserving it. These people are as evil as they come - thieves and murderers.

Only the good die young - that’s why this evil SOB is still kicking at 102.
