I began buying Nike trainers in 1971, in Eugene, Or. The sales staff of Nike Store #2(?) were all Oregon track athletes. I was on a local high school track team, so of course I bought Nikes. They had the best shoe for combatting shin splints and achiles tendon problems I knew of; the original Cortez.

Around two years ago I bought two pairs of Dr. Scholls on clearance at Walmart for $7 each. They were both size 13 which I have a hard time finding. Sometimes size 14 fits better.

I guess that is technically a name brand but not one of the biggies. I have worn one pair every day and they still look almost new. The other pair is still in the box. A couple of weeks ago I saw a bunch of odds and ends on clearance for a buck.

There was a single one size 14. It fits perfectly and feels good walking but I may never wear out the Dr. Scholls.

I still have a couple of old Nike shoes probably bought when I still wore size 12. They were the first brand I saw which used something like cloth uppers.

Very comfortable.

i get the very basic ones and they don’t last at all- the soles start to separate a month or two out- I goop them back together- they are very uncomfortable, no paddign at all- soles are slippery but at least don’t have some gommy tread that tracks in dirt- and the soles wear out quick- within a year- but i don’t care- I use goop to fix em lol-

Maybe they chose this path because a lot of men buy one or two pairs of sneaks and wear them until they are worn out but a lot of women seem to have a pair of colored sneaks for every different color of outfit they own so Converse thinks this will benefit their bottom line. Just saying.

I wore a pair of Nike Air Pegasus '89s to Parris Island in... 1989. They were my 'gofasters'. Still have them somewhere.

After that I started wearing New Balance, because they make a 12EEEE.

I’m old enough to remember when Converse was what the poor kids that couldn’t afford Nike or Puma wore.

Yep - and some years ago when I had Plantar fascitis, my doctor recommended NB for my sneakers...been with them ever since....plus, when is the last time anyone outside of basketball had anything to do with Converse? The name took me back to the name Bob Cousy as a basketball icon.
