Yes, indeed. Should also add it was Lenin and Stalin who both wrote about how useful the muslim religion was in extending the world socialist influence. There are— throughout the world... lots of muslim communists, and many of those aren’t muslim any more but, in Spain, descended from the Moors and carry the same islamic socialist politics, a cultural derivation to this day (and the dark hair and skin).
Which is doubly interesting from the standpoint of the recent human genome work done on the Spanish peninsula— and gene coding the Celtic migration from Spain to the western shores of Southern Ireland! Long before the Moors ran Spain for decades and finally removed.
The Spanish Civil War still rages without the shooting. But anyone who remembers 1936-39 as an adult is now at least 100 years of age.
It’s like our Civil War; still active though no longer part of living memory.
The Spaniards should just drop it and engage the Muslim threat within; muzzies regard Spain as unredeemed Islamic territory and they want it back.
The Moors ruled Spain for 700 years. For both sides, “Reconquista” means taking back what was once theirs.
Knew this was coming ...
Not sure I understand that— both sides being right and left are both carrying the “memory” of Moorish rule? That is very interesting— and must conflict with those who were trying to reconcile the end of the Civil War (and you’re right, very few alive to remember that— however, volumes of info is being preserved, by both sides).
Socialism is the European disease— and Spain’s islamic history must culturally be prevailing.
Re-found a Graham Greene written story— in a movie with Sir Alec Guinness and Leo McKern. Guinness plays the “tainted” padre and McKern the former communist mayor of El Toboso town in the La Mancha region. Both anti-Catholic and anti-Communist- in the end— (for me anyway) stunningly Christian in hope. The movie is on you tub...”Monsignor Quixote”. Briefly includes a visit by them to the “Valley o the Fallen”.
Love “El Cid” too. Fascinated with Spain, and many Cuban friends from there (old families).

It was produced in 1982 when many of the principle actors were still alive. Fascinating and very even-handed IMHO.
This is also on the agenda for the Us. Removing Confederate statues or statues of Lee or Davis is just the start. Eventually it will be removing the Jefferson statue and then someday Ronald Reagan's’ remains will have to go. This is a significant part of the cultural Marxist agenda to conduct historical cleansing as well as eventually ethnic cleansing.
Chevy Chase’s Career is still dead.
I, uh, meant that both sides still carry the collective memory of the Spanish Civil War though hardly anyone is alive who was there.
As for the Moors, they are trying to reimpose Islamic rule on Spain and just like the idiot leadership in France, Germany, and UK (Italy seems to have come to its senses), the socialist government in Madrid does nothing to keep the muzzies out.
So the Spaniards may indeed have to rekindle their medieval memory of the horrors of Moorish rule, which was not the interreligious paradise that the Left makes it out to be.
VERY scary and honest, I wish more southerners had put up a big fight against those statues coming down.
i come from a forever leftist city so I won’t talk bravado.
It’s just...I expected a fight when they started doing that and there wasn’t one.
They’re GONE. Like they never existed.
WTH??!
Spain was known as “the Sick Man of Europe” for a good reason. The country was chronically ungovernable other than with an iron hand and cursed by unearned New World gold which ran out in the 18th century leaving Spain with almost zero economic or educational capacity to industrialize. The Church owned half the land and alongside the wealthy latifundista land owning class, kept the lives of the peasants in a state of utter degradation. The Civil War of 1936 was on of a hundred uprisings throughout Spain’s history and was largely caused by leftists refusing to let the Republic govern. Same deal that happened in the Weimar Republic with leftists there uniting with Nazis to undercut the authority of the Weimar Republic. This planet is still attempting to overthrow feudalism and its hideously outdated ideas about class structures and traditionalism. Pray for artificial intelligence to take the power of decision making out of the hands of the ruling class.
A true hero of Spain's Moroccan wars. He spent years leading troops in merciless infantry combat against Riffian insurgents
In the Spanish Civil war he was a ruthless strategic/operational leader. He understood the nature of the communist enemy he was fighting
He kept Spain out of WW2 and helped bring prosperity in the 1950s and 60's.
He was the greatest Spanish patriot of the century - no wonder the left hates him.
They can desecrate his grave but cannot undo his accomplishment.

Some of you guys should teach history at colleges :)
I knew none of this and am never ashamed to say it, even at 50.
Ego is just a nuisance past a certain age :)
Did ANY Spanish fight in WWII? I?
How long did that ‘36 war last?
They must have been courted by one side or another during WWII, no?
Thanks in advance.
Dems try constantly to push us into a class society, though they claim the opposite.
We shouldn’t even use terms like middle or upper or working class here but we are conditioned to it.
Paging Chevy Chase, please pick up a white courtesy phone!
I have been to the Valley of the Fallen and have stood at Franco’s grave.
The Valley of the Fallen is the greatest national monument to war dead of any country I have visited. The tomb of the unknown soldier in Rome is pretty good, as it is in the US, but the Valley of the Fallen is really something.

Did ANY Spanish fight in WWII?
Spanish Civil War was fought between 1936-1939. It provided practical experience for German air force personnel, tactics and equipment.
By no means claiming more than a keen interest in history, awhile back I came across mention of Spains División Española de Voluntarios or the Blue Division - Division Azul.
Formed immediately following Germanys invasion of Russia it was comprised of volunteers. In addition to infantry, formations included a small aviation group. The Blue Division saw extensive combat on the Eastern Front with total casualties nearing 50%. Surviving members of the Blue Division were repatriated to Spain in mid-1944.
Comprised of repatriated members of the Blue Division and other volunteers, several Spanish Waffen SS battalions were created. They saw service in the latter part of the war including the defense of Berlin.

So they fought for the Germans!!??
Wow.
More like = Against the Soviets.
Franco even kept Hitler waiting for hours as he approached by train.
There were many US military personnel in Spain during the Cold War. I was one of them.
There were La Guardia Civil to fear by citizens, but for Americans it was ideal in very many respects.
Coastal towns in rural Spain became retirement communities for US Marines and other military personnel.
'Course, Spain is now dealing with a similar influx of "invaders" from south of THEIR border.
