The Southern Poverty Law Center said Thursday that it had fired its co-founder and chief trial lawyer, Morris Dees, after nearly a half-century, during which he helped build the organization into a fearsome powerhouse that focused on hate crimes and with an endowment that approached half a billion dollars.
The group’s president, Richard Cohen, did not give a specific reason for the dismissal of Mr. Dees, 82, on Wednesday. But Mr. Cohen said in a statement that as a civil-rights group, the S.P.L.C. was “committed to ensuring that the conduct of our staff reflects the mission of the organization and the values we hope to instill in the world.”
“When one of our own fails to meet those standards, no matter his or her role in the organization, we take it seriously and must take appropriate action,” Mr. Cohen said.
Mr. Cohen’s statement suggested that Mr. Dees’s firing was linked to workplace conduct. He said the center, which is based in Montgomery, Ala., had requested “a comprehensive assessment of our internal climate and workplace practices” in a bid to ensure that the organization was a place where “all voices are heard and all staff members are respected.”

Interesting idea. . . . It has to be something new, because it’s been common knowledge for several decades that black employees of the SPLC were treated poorly. And Dees’ squalid divorce records were also revealed many years ago and posed no threat whatsoever to his leadership of the SPLC.
Most people do not know the strange anomaly to Morris Dees’ legal career:
He began as a lawyer FOR THE KLAN. Yes, the KKK.
The term is so loaded that I have to allow that it sounds made up.
But, yeah.
Maybe he made an anti-Semitic remark.
What does it matter? He has skimmed cash and hidden it in the Carmans for years. SPLC was always the Morris Dees retirement fund.
Mo Sleaze. His ex-wife accused him of molesting her daughter years ago. He started his legal career by defending Klansmen in Alabama. Then he moved on to selling cookbooks out of the trunk of his car. Then he discovered he could fool people into giving him money by persuading them that Nazis were behind every tree. The SPLC was always just a vast fundraising outfit to keep Mo and his crowd living the high life.
The dude is an 82 year old multi millionaire. Let someone else have the chance to stir up hatred for cold cash $. How many more millions does he need?
Are all ‘poverty centers’ as rich as the SPLC?
The splc has standards?
He milked it for all he could, now he is no longer needed because the board sees a storm coming. He does not give a flying—expletive deleted—and he goes home to his palatial palace, a fine dinner, a glass of wine, and a whore to meet his every need. So what has changed?
The SPLC is probably the largest non government intelligence
gathering organization in the country.
Aside from Dee’s cash cow and a tool of leftists.
He is a truly despicable and degenerate human being
Does this mean that Mr. Dees will be denounced/charged for ‘hate’?
