It always astounds me that economics majors who usually take a class in comparative economics can prefer socialism, unless they are megalomaniacs. Marx got away with his rubbish because of the slow speed of discovery back then, but today, it’s not difficult to refute socialist totalitarianism if you are remotely awake. Funny, many people think FDR was a socialist for having signed Social Security into law.
It takes 5 workers paying in for 1 to collect.
You only need to pay in for an aggregate 10 years to collect for 10-40 years.
SS has expanded to include payouts to disabled, as well as spouses & children who may have never paid in a dime.
While it’s good to have INSURANCE that we wont starve in our dotage, after working our lives away, FDR’s SS was a toe under the tent for what has become socialist wealth redustribution. It spawned thousands of additional tax schemes & massive bureaucracies designed to give away your earnings to those who haven’t earned it.
And any suggestion of reform— for instance, lengthening the pay-in time, or turning it into an INSURANCE program & instituting a means test (no payouts to rich folks who don’t need it) is met with howls of derision from left & right alike.

In other words, what I meant to say in my rant above is, AOC doesn’t have a forkin’ CLUE what she’s talking about.
FDR in fact was the closest thing we’ve ever had to a “Democratic Socialist” as POTUS.
