Sen. Martha McSally reveals she was raped by superior officer while serving in the Air Force

A freshman senator revealed Wednesday that she almost quit the Air Force after she was sexually assaulted. Martha McSally, an Arizona Republican, called herself a “military sexual assault survivor” during a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing aiming to provide better support to victims.

“Like so many women and men, I didn’t trust the system at the time,” McSally, who served in the Air Force from 1988 to 2010, said during the hearing. “I blamed myself. I was ashamed and confused. I thought I was strong but felt powerless. The perpetrators abused their position of power in profound ways. In one case I was preyed upon and raped by a superior officer.”

McSally, 52, said her experience eventually led her to want to help others avoid the same “wholly inadequate responses” with which she was presented....

“I almost separated from the Air Force at 18 years of service over my despair. Like many victims, I felt like the system was raping me all over again.” Before retiring as a colonel, McSally became the first American woman to fly in combat.

Last year, McSally also told the Wall Street Journal that she had been sexually abused by her high school track coach.

Well now she either names names, or condones it.

Since she has a much more honorable past and demonstrated performance than that bimbo who lied about Kavanaugh, I tend to look at her claims with more belief.

However, something just doesn’t sound right.

Awaiting far, far more info.

If true, we should see names, places, and times.

Let’s say it really happened. If she names a name with no proof she can be sued. Now if she had filed a report and nothing happened that would be different.

If it was me and I had no proof there is no way I would bring it up. Doing so serves no purpose beyond climbing aboard the #metoo express.

High school track coach too??? .... I was prepared to be sympathetic about the Air Force superior etc. Now its w little too much! It’s clearly an effort to gird her self with #metoo armor for her upcoming effort to keep the seat.

Yeah she’s a leader alright!

“...climbing the #metoo express..”

and that’s the goal!

In my book that doesn’t show much character!

This strikes me as using an issue, a horrible issue, for self-gain and political capital.

She should say who it was and answer as to why she did not report it.

By not naming him, she is enabling him to do it to another.

Simple as that.

Whatever happened to “allegedly”? Or how about “without evidence”?

However, something just doesn’t sound right.

What doesn't sound right to me is that someone with enough ego and self-confidence to be a "fighter pilot" would lay back and submit to rape without an effective struggle. A struggle that would leave some serious marks or other damage.

Even if she was had after passing out drunk, she could have responded after the fact. The fact she did not suggests it was not rape but something closer to a misunderstanding between friends.

If it’s true, she is protecting a rapist who dishonored his position of trust. She seems to be a weak creature who should have never been put in the Senate. Especially after she lost an election for Senate a few months earlier.
