New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is trying to win back Amazon by making calls to executives, including Jeff Bezos, according to The New York Times.
Cuomo is upset with local politicians who had opposed the deal with Amazon.
Amazon abandoned its plans to build half of its new headquarters in New York City earlier this month.
Several local New York leaders will publish an open letter in the Times, asking Amazon to come back.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been pleading with Amazon executives, including CEO Jeff Bezos, to reconsider their decision to abandon plans to build a new office there, The New York Times reported Thursday.
Cuomo was outraged at local politicians who had opposed Amazon’s HQ2 build on Long Island City and eventually drove the company out. Following Amazon’s Valentine’s Day announcement that it was abandoning its planned move to New York that would bring 25,000 jobs, Cuomo issued a statement saying, “a small group [of] politicians put their own narrow political interests above their community — which poll after poll showed overwhelmingly supported bringing Amazon to Long Island City — the state’s economic future and the best interests of the people of this state.”
In the past two weeks, Cuomo has reportedly been trying to do damage control by promising Amazon executives he would help them cut through New York’s bureaucracy, according to the Times, though Amazon has not indicated it’s working.

Suck it you loser (Cuomo). It’s your political party who chased those jobs off. Hoisted on your own petard. No fan of Bezos, but he does create jobs and wealth. Unlike Occasional Cortex, you (Cuomo) may have some slight understanding of economics, but too little too late.
How soon until AOC gets too big for her britches and TPTB knock her down a few notches?

Based on business reports, it’s a complete ‘no’. Some of the 25,000 lost NY City jobs will go to Crystal City, VA....some to the hub being built in Nashville, and the rest moved around the country in smaller numbers. If I were taking a guess...Crystal city will end up with 35,000 jobs. City or state leadership can chat all they want....it’s over.
Business reports also hint that a fair amount of this negativity revolves around local NY lobbyists and agenda people demanding that x-number of the positions (25,000 total) had to go to Queens residents (meaning that new people from outside of NY, were to be ineligible for the jobs). If I were a business guy....that would have been enough for me to just walk out of the room.

AOC wasn’t even the biggest problem here. She was actually late to the game. The biggest A-holes were two state legislators representing districts in the area who turned around and opposed the deal after it was announced ... even though they had been strong supporters previously. In fact, their support was necessary for NY to negotiate a deal with Amazon because the state has a policy of securing the support of local leaders before they go through the trouble of negotiating with developers and corporations over these relocation incentive packages.

If I were Bezos, I would have chosen Binghamton NY. It has rail, highway, and airport and is economically depressed. They would give a huge deal and probably treat him like a living god.
INSUFFICIENT BRIBERY is the cause of this debacle. Lotsa money was spread around, but not enough to our new socialist wunderkind and her ilk.
Next time around, Cuuuomo will have his chance to make it all right. After all, Cuuuomo has all the experience in this regard.
Let’s hope that it all just goes away.
