While most inmates are given a black-and white-television, it's behind a special kind of glass and can be restricted to show old, never live, programs.

Sounds just like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Most of their movies are at least 5 years old, most are 10 years old and more! Think this might be a selling point? "We show the same movies, of the same age, as the prisoners in Super Max prison get!"

I’ve been to ADX. They have televisions, true, but they are controlled by the prison authority. That way they can manage behavior by using entertainment as a reward for good behavior or its restriction for punishment. I doubt that ADX is alone in this regard.

It is a cold, simple, very secure place with little variance to provide the smallest bit of entertainment for the prisoners; no mice, bugs, birds, etc., and the knowledge that everything you do, everything, is watched by a guard.
