Chicago detectives investigating an alleged attack on Jussie Smollett are working to obtain the actor's financial records, a high-ranking police source said Wednesday. Investigators have also sought to ask Smollett additional questions about the attack he reported on January 29. Smollett's attorneys have not indicated when their client will be available to talk to police. Smollett told authorities that two men attacked him, putting a rope around his neck and pouring an unknown chemical substance on him. Smollett denies playing a role in his attack, according to a statement from his attorneys.
In a statement, 20th Century Fox Television, which produces the series "Empire" on which Smollett appears, and Fox Entertainment expressed support for the actor Wednesday. "Jussie Smollett continues to be a consummate professional on set and as we have previously stated, he is not being written out of the show," the statement said. Two law enforcement sources with knowledge of the investigation have told CNN that police believe Smollett paid two brothers to orchestrate an assault on him.
The brothers, who were arrested and released in connection with the attack, met Tuesday with police and prosecutors at a Chicago courthouse, Chicago police spokesman Tom Ahern said. The county's top prosecutor, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx, has recused herself from the investigation, according to a spokeswoman from her office.

They used the current tense. If he is jailed for any length of time, they may have little choice but to write him out of the show.
My prediction is that Smollett will be allowed to enter some kind of rehab for substance abuse. His attorney will blame everything on drugs and alcohol and issue an apology from Smollett. The authorities will be relieved not have to prosecute a gay black man. Celebrities will praise Smollett for having the courage to try to expose racism and homophobia.

Is this media’s ace in the hole or the cops? Shirley, by now they know what that “substance” was. In the past, the story was a liquid that ‘smelled like bleach’.
Early on, it was said to be tobacco/hot sauce (bottle recovered near the scene). Why can’t we be told?

For those asking me why I only went on @seanhannity @IngrahamAngle and @ShannonBream on @FoxNews, to talk #JussieSmollett and not any others—simply, they are the national TV shows that asked me to come on.
The investigation will proceed, unless a top corrupt Chicago politician (excuse the redundancy) squashes the investigation.
I will celebrate when the official word comes out that the smollet POS made it all up.
I think his pleading insanity by addiction is a cop-out and an excellent prediction by you. Say, did you notice the latest news, that Mark Geragos might be joining his defense team?
I always thought Geragos defended losers, but what are we to make of the rumored extravagant kneeling settlement between Kaep and the NFL?
The Left controls Chicago and Illinois. Nothing, absolutely nothing, will happen to Jussie. Street theatre hoaxes are how the Left, in conjunction with a compliant MSM, advances the narrative and raises money. The Tawana Brawley hoax, Duke lacrosse, the Covington student ambush among many others. In their mind Jussie did his best but it just went wrong. Move on.
The Empire TV show is filmed and produced in Chicago. Maybe they pissed off Chicago PD big time. So big that they pissed off blacks, Hispanics and whites in Chicago PD.
He committed a Federal Crime when he sent the fake letter through the mail. The Fed’s will be involved now.

Geragos will get James Comey to conclude Jossie did not intend that this hoax would play out so there was no court which would convict him.
I love it. This guy will bankrupt himself just on legal fees, spokespeople, and whatever else. Empire is going to end up writing him out or the show will finally get canceled, either way his paycheck is gone and his career is in the toilet.
After refusing to let the police have access to his phone and soon to be stalling financial records you can bet his lawyer will say he is cooperating fully.
