Sana Cheema was born in Pakistan, but was an Italian citizen A court in Pakistan has acquitted the father, brother and uncle of a woman who died in a suspected honour killing last year. Sana Cheema, 26, lived in Italy but died while visiting her family in Gujrat in April 2018.
She was originally buried without an autopsy - but when exhumed a cause of death was identified as strangulation. It was widely reported that she had been brought back to Pakistan for an arranged marriage, but refused.
Her friends also alleged Ms Cheema had wanted to marry a Pakistani-Italian man in Italy - a match her family objected to. Ms Cheema was born in Pakistan, but lived in the northern Italian city of Brescia for most of her life. ...
Pakistani authorities exhumed Ms Cheema's body. They found her voice box was swollen and a neck bone had been dislocated - suggesting strangulation.
Three members of her family, including her older brother Adnan and father Ghulam Mustafa Cheema, were then arrested on suspicion of involvement. All three were acquitted in a district court in Gurjrat on Friday, due to lack of "certain evidence".
Human Rights Watch says that violence against women and girls remains a serious problem in Pakistan. Activists believe about 1,000 "honour killings" are carried out across the country every year.

I have no doubt the Somali community in Minneapolis would approve of her killing.
This thing about “honor” killing your daughter makes about as much sense to me as “discussing” killing a live baby.
Feminists, “ ?... ?”
Wouldn’t it be interesting to do a survey of the Somali community in Minnesota concerning honor killings? I would love to see a man-in-the-street interview.
Throwing acid in women’s faces is also a popular sport.
It is because of Pakistan and Afghanistan that we also still have polio in the world. Since Mohammed never spoke of vaccines they must be haram according to Islamic scholars.
As much as I am repelled by advocacy of women’s issues from time to time (because so much of it is just B.S.), this is one area that really stands out to me. It is unconscionable that a woman or any human should be subject to honor killings like this.
The people involved in this woman’s death, should get the death penalty themselves.
She should never have gone back to the old country.
“Honour Killing”... Yet another “important cultural treasure” that us racist, KKKolonialiSSt white westerners do not *DARE* question or criticise, much less think of forbidding or stifling. Just like other cultural treasures, such as Chinese foot-binding, female “circumcision”, suttee, and child bride polygamy.
For my money, they could nuke the entire countries of Afghanistan and Pakistan and I wouldn’t bat an eye. Those are not countries, they are very large prisons and torture chambers for women. I am very careful not to purchase anything made in Pakistan. A lot of our textiles, like towels and socks, are made there—so check your labels. No way would I want a penny of my money going there.
I assume that "Honor Killing" was also prevalent among other Latin-American cultures. The nature of my work brought those killings to my attention.
A surprising number of steel surgical instruments are made in Pakistan.
As insane and prehistoric as this practice is, the women knew and know all about it. They understand the risks, the price that they could come to pay.
We slaughter the innocent unborn without a whisper to ever be heard from them.
Now why didn’t Omar’s family do us the favor early on
