No Bray today, so I’ll post my own observation:

Rush Limbaugh said this Friday in an answer to a caller who said he was lost faith in Trump because he signed this bill:

CALLER: That’s good. My point… My call is that the president didn’t need to sign that spending bill today. He could have not signed it, declared the emergency, and we, as his base of supporters, would have supported him 100% on it. But by signing it with all this negativity that’s in it, all the basic giveaways that he’s doing, he’s damaged his base. I mean, there’s just no getting around it. People are upset that he signed this into law basically giving open borders. No wall’s gonna be built. He’s turned his back on us — and, quite frankly, I have lost faith in his ability to do his job.

RUSH: I know that. Yep.

Well, I’m sorry to hear that you are wavering, losing faith. I’m not gonna sit here and try to talk you off the ledge. I have more respect for your independence and your decision-making than that. (sigh) About all I could say… I mean, when the Democrats win the House, what does anybody think is gonna happen? Look, I don’t want to relive the past because you can’t change it. But all during that campaign last year, I grew so sick and tired of hearing from everybody, “The Democrats are gonna win the House ’cause it’s automatic.

“This is what happens. The out-of-power party always picks up seats in the first midterm elections after a new president’s been elected.” It just seemed to me that there wasn’t a whole lot of effort on the Republican side to stop this. We had all these damn Republican resignations. That meant a lot of incumbent seats in the House were automatically in play, given how automatically reelected incumbents are. So all these Republicans are quitting, and I’m asking, “Why?”

And they said, “Well, because they’ve been term-limited out of their chairmanships.”

“Oh! So since they’re just gonna go back to being average, ordinary, run-of-the-mill members, that’s beneath them, and they’re gonna leave?”

“Well, they want to go earn some money — and, you know, they don’t think Trump’s this or that.”

So we basically had a party… How many Republicans retired? Was it over 50 or 40 or something? We practically gave the House to them, and Trump’s out there doing all these rallies trying to prevent a disaster — and holding the House was crucial to Trump’s agenda going forward. It just… As I say, there’s no going back now. I mean, you can’t change it. It ticked me off!

Morning AB, All. As/always, thank you AB for doing this thread so reliably and keeping the peace with gentle thread policing. Thank you Bray for weekly written wisdom, Thank all yon contributors for excellent commentary to flesh it all out.

Below are the words from my daily political diary. It is quite long so scroll on by if not interested. But do stay around and add your commentary and point of view to the thread.

Current Events

Why yes I did watch the 2019 Grammies and, for the most part, found the show very entertaining. I do, however, have some thoughts on the matter.

First, Alicia Keys….come on, she can’t take something off her head for a few minutes? Can she slow down her endless talking? She was a pretty good hostess and, oh, while I’m at it….let us bow and pay homage that we didn’t get any political lectures from those who are not only way smarter than us, but who can also sing very well. I think these “celebrities” are learning that us ordinary Americans, those of us not famous and millionaires, do not want our singers, actors and football players to tell us how to think. I heard there was a sign somewhere that said “Build a bridge, not a wall” but I didn’t see it and no big deal was made.

Although, let us be aware, that Former First Lady Michelle Obama did show up, at the show’s beginning, dressed in a garish outfit that Melania Trump wouldn’t be caught dead in. Michele was very gracious, praising her life with Motown and musical greats.

The best dressed, as well as the best guest, was Dolly Parton, America’s sweetheart who sang some our most beloved and remembered songs.

The LEAST talented on this show, on any show when she sings, was Miley Cyrus. I know her father is a country western singer and Miley can carry a note. I think most of what came out of her mouth last night was lip syncing.

Joy Villa, known for her visible love of President Trump, wore a gown that had pictures of a wall on front, with the words BUILD A WALL on the back of her dress. Villa is a smart one. No one ever heard of her before Donald Trump.

An interesting guest was Diana Ross’ 9-year old grandson, name, oddly, Raif Henok. Sounds like a totally made up name to me.

A few awards listed below:

Record Of The Year

Childish Gambino – “This Is America”

Album Of The Year

Kacey Musgraves – Golden Hour

Song Of The Year

Childish Gambino – “This Is America”

Current Events

President Trump’s approval up to 52% per the recent Rasmussen poll. Imagine a president beaten on and lied about managing to keep those numbers up.

Says what we the people think about him more than the celebrities.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday date-2/13/19

Current Events

So President Trump held an old fashioned rally in Texas and Beto O’Rourke held another rally right down the road.

Trump had about 50,000 people. Beto had five or six.

He’s done for. He wants to be President Beto.

I don’t think so.

So Michigan elects a Muslim from Somalia to represent it and turns out she HATES JEWS!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Omar responded to Greenwald's tweet slamming McCarthy for trying to silence anti-Israel speech

'It's all about the Benjamins,' Omar tweeted, which some interpreted as an anti-Semitic trope about Jews who use money to ensure support for Israel

Rep. Jerold Nadler called her words 'hurtful and offensive'

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The Muslims hate Israel. Israel is the only country in the middle east that has democracy, civilization and a decent culture. The Jews are waaaaaay smarter than the Muslims and manage to live in a hostile area with class and aplomb.

And now we are electing these people in America?

She needs to resign, even if by force, just like they’d make a Republican do had he or she said these hateful words.

Pic of the Week

Thursday Date-2/14/19

Current Events

One of the funniest anecdotes of President Donald Trump this week was about the dog.

Indeed, Trump declared, he does not have a dog. Yes, the Obamas had a dog but they didn’t like it and it wasn’t allowed inside. Muslims do not like dogs.

The Clintons had a dog that someone else took care of.

“Can you see me walking a dog on the front lawn?” Trump asked.

In fact I can’t see him walking a dog. Trump likes to smile, wave, maybe stop and talk to waiting reporters. I can’t see a little Chihuahua pulling him along, impatient and ready to go poop.

Now Inside Edition is starting a campaign to get Trump a dog.

Lookit, I love dogs. But if a person doe sn’t think a dog will work for them, they shouldn’t get one.

The best thing about this exchange made during Trump’s recent rally, is how honest the man is. All of the other presidents in my memory made a big PR deal about a dog and expressed love forever. Trump says, nah, he’s too busy to be a good owner of a dog.

Is 'Empire' Star Jussie Smollett's Story Falling Apart?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3727450/posts

I never heard of this Jussie Smollett. Probably because I don’t watch this Empire series. As I am to understand, he is black and openly gay.

Which means nothing but tis the facts.

Seems Jussie reported that a group of Neanderthal right-wingers stopped him, threw bleach on him, declared that he was in MAGA country.

So far Smollett’s offered no proof that any of this ever happened. There was some kind of grainy pic supposed to be the right-wing assholes but no one’s been able to find the people.

Folks, maybe Smollett got the word from Valerie Jarrett, she who arranges these fake things, to report an attack by Trump supporters. So far the Chicago police have no evidence whatsoever than anything happened but they are spending our tax dollars investigating these lies.

He needs to be arrested for reporting a crime that did not happen.

I understand El Chappo, the famous Mexican drug Lord who murdered a lot of people and has billions in drug money, has been arrested and is in jail.

Scuttlebutt is that Trump can use the money absconded from El Chappo to pay for the border wall.

Wouldn’t that be the epitome of justice?

Friday date--2/15/19

Culture story

So Anthony Scaramucci was a ersatz contestant on this year’s Celebrity Big Brother. He was some kind of “not really” a contender, an imposter if you will.

Still he pretended to be one of the group and most intriguing of all, he had a chance to sit down with host Julie Chen and talk about President Trump.

“He is our president and we should respect the will of the people,” I paraphrase Scaramucci as Julie Chen nodded affirmative. He said a few other good things about President Trump and guess what? Nobody booed, nobody threw bleach on anybody. The audience was polite and much positive smiles upon.

Things are changing. No nastiness at the Emmys. Former Trump officials speaking publicly about White House experiences, saying positive things.

And I’ve always considered Scaramucci a very handsome fellow.

----------------------

Current Events

As of this writing the House has submitted their ridiculous budget for the wall. All slats in the fence must be an ivory white. Any gates must be covered with roses and ten dollars is allotted for more beds.

And then I hear Chuck Grassley praying in the senate that the President signs the bill so the gubmint is not shut down.

I could not believe my ears! How dare a senator put the sitting elected president of their own party in such an awkward position.

I pray Trump does not sign that things.

And how about the fine and honest McCabe fellow, already fired for lying to congress, writing a book and revealing how Rosenstein wore a wire in Trump’s presence, how he plotted how to assassinate those politicos who needed dying, how that group of FBI zero burgers were out to unseat a lawfully elected president.

Bear in mind this is the guy whose wife ran for Senator of Virginia and who got $750,000 from Terry McAuliffe, Hillary’s right hand guy.

These people not only break every rule in the constitution, they proudly write books about it!!

-----------------------------

Saturday date-2/16/19

Why yes I did watch President Trump’s speech concerning signing the budget to keep the gubmint open and his declaration of an emergency.

Some observations…..I like Trump, really I do. But I am so tired of so many of his announcements/speeches are filled with braggadocio. BUT THEN AGAIN, let me be fair, Trump has to provide his own triumphs as the fake media only mentions his penchant for two scoops of ice cream while everybody else only gets one.

I also do not think being best buddies with Kim Jung-Un of North Korea is something to brag about. BUT THEN AGAIN, he’s not over in North Korea with his Secretary of State, raising glasses and giving money to the little dictator that he not test his nukes. Still, I remember what the Norks did to the Bombier kid, torturing him to death for ripping a flier off the wall.

He’s not anyone I’d be proud of to call a friend.

Just a few relatively minor complaints. All in all I liked the way President Trump handled the announcement, proclaiming the greatest truth of all…”If you don’t have a border you don’t have a country”.

Ari Fleischer, President Dubya’s press secretary, was interviewed after the announcement and he was brutal. Hey….I think Ari Fleischer and that whole Dubya White House were a bunch of lily-livered RINOs. Fleischer said over and over how Trump SHOULD have handled the manner.

Experts, they are all experts although they failed miserably when they were in charge.

Finally I gave a serious listen to Rush Limbaugh yesterday. I think Rush has the Trump/Pelose/Schumer matter figured out. Rush asserts that while the Dems would probably have no great objections to a wall, they are determined to tell us, TRUMP’S VOTERS, to stop supporting the man. For they will spend the rest of his days stopping him from anything he tries to accomplish.

And we….the ruled, will learn that the Ruling Class will determine whether we have walls, whether planes shall fly, whether cows shall fart.

And we the peons shall bow and respect.

Reminder, Rush Limbaugh will be an hour long guest on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.

On a personal note

Just some miscellany thoughts from the week just passed. Some mindless thoughts, some insightful thinking, perhaps a rant or two.

The story of the week is truly that Jussie Smollet mess. Word is that he paid his two Nigerian cohorts some $3500 to buy rope, bleach and plan the attack.

Now when does ole Jussie go to jail?

>>>>>>>

Cats are notorious for being picky eaters. As are mine. My cats do love shrimp while I am from Merryland and while I love seafood, like all Merrylanders, it’s generally of the shellfish kind. But recently I ate some salmon, first time in my life.

I loved it! Not as good as crabs but a great fish.

So yesterday I gave my cats each a piece of recently cooked salmon. We all had a great salmon feast, two cats loving this new fish and growling for each sliver.

It was great fun.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Rush Limbaugh revealed a truth last week that is so on the money I must repeat. Rush says that since we have no opposition party to fight the Democrats, the swamp denizens, both Republican and Democrat, at determined to not only teach President Trump a lesson on accomplishing things, they are too teaching us boobaloobs what happens when you elect a non-swamp-denizen to make their lives miserable.

For they will make our lives miserable too and we shall learn our lessons.

>>>>>>>>>>

The recently newly premiered show, “The Mask” is my favorite new show this year.

They have masked singers of all kind sing while a panel of judges try to guess who they are. Each week one contender is voted off and must unmask.

So far they’ve had Tori Spelling as a singer (who knew she could sing?) and LaToya Jackson.

Singers can include sports figures, singing has-beens, those who sing that nobody thought could.

>>>>>>>>

Potato salad is a dish that I am working on perfecting. So far, the following ingredients I have determined are needed for a good potato salad.

Celery, onion, cucumber, radish. I am adding a chopped up hardboiled egg and maybe some pickle.

As for dressing, I am debating soaking my cooked potatoes in some Italian dressing, adding my other ingredients, some mayo, and some good seasoning.

Oh, and most important, the potatoes must be cooked properly. We don’t want mashed potato salad but we want the damn things cooked until there is just a little bite to them

Thank me very much.

About the dog thing: Trump didn’t grow up with one. Ergo, no dog.

He COULD raise awareness about not only the homeless people, but also their pets.

Rumors are that Lindsay Graham has been compromised. His handler McCain passed away which gave an opportunity for those cleansing the swamp to turn Graham from a gang of eighter and occasional conservative before each election to one of the good guys.Lets hope he stays there.
Lots going on this week,I'm going fishing knowing the thread is in very capable hands of some of the best posters in the land.

Once again, personally, second guessing Trump has always led to egg on my face. I have no doubt that everything Trump does is carefully calculated to be the best move for the country at the time.I have little doubt nothing has changed.I also have little doubt that the wall will be built.
Off to slay the Mackerel.!!

I want to hear more about this potato salad.

Also, indeed the kind of potato used to make potato salad is very important.

I use Russert but potato salad does not require particularly special potatoes.

so long as they are cooked right.
