Two Nigerian brothers who “have a relationship” with “Empire” star Jussie Smollett have been arrested in the alleged hate attack on the TV actor — further fueling speculation he staged it, Chicago police said Friday.

I think they will charge these guys with the crime, if they haven’t already and then give them leniency if they confess and turn on smollett. If so I bet they will.

Apparently they’ve charged the two with assault/battery. If the whole thing was a staged hoax then there may be no need for leniency at all. Their best defense would be to tell the truth (they can’t be charged with assault if the “victim” was complicit), and since they weren’t the ones who filed the police report they probably wouldn’t be charged with anything related to the hoax.

Faking a hate crime IS a hate crime. Jussie and his Nigerian conspirators should all be prosecuted and put behind bars.unfortunately I don't know what they could charge Smollett with beyond filing a false police report. I hope they can do more than that. There ought to be a stronger penalty for this BS.

Their best defense would be to tell the truth (they can’t be charged with assault if the “victim” was complicit), and since they weren’t the ones who filed the police report they probably wouldn’t be charged with anything related to the hoax.I think I see your point. If they tell the truth that Smollett orchestrated it they can go free because they committed no crime. If they refuse to do that then they can be charged with assault and battery. I wonder though if there are other laws involved that were broken, I am no lawyer so I wouldn't know.
