Democrat Party, American Jews are just like “Flounder” in the movie “Animal House”, when the guys wreck his brother’s car while goofing off, chasing chicks. When Flounder cries out, saying, “What I am going to tell my brother, he’ll kill me”, the boys answer Flounder with, “Ya screwed up big time Flounder, you trusted us...we suggest you start drinking heavily”.

In the movie “The Jazz Singer”, as the Jolson character is putting on blackface in front of a mirror, for a moment the image dissolves and he sees in the mirror and image of the suffering Jewish people -— ie, he grasps the similarity between the sufferings of the Jews and the sufferings of black people.
It is a statement intended to evoke sympathy for the black condition.

Exactly. Al Jolson, early on, was part of a Negro minstrel troupe. And, when he was in New Orleans, he picked up the new American form of music called jazz. This was all a long, long time ago, and who even knows about it, or can appreciate what was really going on.
During WWII, when the Nazis rolled through his ancestral home, they took all the Jews out and shot them. How could anybody who suffered this way not feel sympathy for oppressed minorities!

and owner of probably 40 CDs of his.
His blackface was never intended at that time in the context of the times to be anti-black. He promoted the careers of black film industry people and black actors, extras and production staff members, often earning the hostility of the film company bosses.

Yes. I fully agree. Again: I am Jewish and 100% pro-Trump and voted for him in the Michigan primary and election.
The 24% of Jexws who voted for Trump are wise and in the right. Most of the others are “cultural Jews” or mostly Reform Jews who support feminist marches,the Green New Deal and all the Dem candidates. Putrid.
My theory: their mommies told them as tots to hate the GOP as for the big business guys and are still old time Father Coughlin style anti-semites. The Dems were supposedly “for the little guy” and the minorities such as blacks who needed a helping hand.
They never grew up. Still pleasing mommy.

Great post discussing Al Jolson. As I mentioned I am a semi-expert on him and own about 40 cds of his music and was a member of the Al Jolson fan club (society actually).
I am much too young (72) to have been there in the early days but I know the blackface was never intended by Jolson to insult
blacks, within the context of the times and the meaning of blackface in the times. Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby were pictured in minstrel blackface in their young career photos.
Sinatra later said “We didn’t know we were hurting anyone.”
