Full title: Why there'll be no escape for El Chapo in 'the prison of all prisons’ known as the ‘Alcatraz of the Rockies’

Mexican drug lord El Chapo faces spending the rest of his life at one of America’s most notorious prisons – to ensure he never escapes again.

The convicted drug smuggler, whose real name is Joaquin Guzman, has a record of jailbreaks, having already escaped two high-security Mexican prisons before being captured and extradited to the United States.

Experts now believe that Guzman is an ideal candidate for the federal government’s Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado – a facility so secure and remote that it has been called the ‘Alcatraz of the Rockies’.

Wonder how many peoples lives were destroyed by the drugs he sold?
They had to to a lot of drugs to make billions?
And he claimed he wasn’t the king pin..true or not it just goes to show how huge the illegal drug business is.

“you will see that it’s designed to be impregnable even to an attempt by military forces to enter it, as to rescue a national figure from American custody.”

Every impregnable thing ever built has eventually been impregnated. Someday, someone, somehow... and the world will be astonished.

And he lead the Sinaloa cartel. Now is this the same Sinaloa that the FBI illegally sold rifles to in Fast and Furious?

Weather and remote location?

There's a golf course right next door. Played it many times. The area is a banana belt, very little snow and highs in the 50's all winter long. Can get a bit warm in summer, but it's a dry heat.

True, but there's a time factor. As long as the United States military is functional, ADX will hold off a rescue squad long enough for the cavalry to get there.

I know his family. His wife is the only one who stays in contact with him.

Because of the weather and remote location, it was called Alcatraz when built.

Technically, speaking it was built in 1994. I don't doubt they gave it that name to instill respect, but remote, it is not.

Not trying to argue with you. I only point these things out to show the hyperbole in the article.

WRT the weather, that part of the state actually has really mild climate. (See: US Climate Data - Canon City, CO) In fact, Canon City is known as the "the Climate Capital of Colorado" because it's unique location shields it from the harsh weather conditions seen in other parts of the state. Due to its location next to the Black Hills, Rapid City, SD is similarly shielded.

I don't live there, but Canon City is one of the places in the US I'm looking to retire, mainly for the low cost of living and mild climate.

And we have "elected" officials who want to legalize even more drugs. They're just as guilty as this loser IMHO.

This sounds like a great place to put congress and their families (after fair trials and convictions, of course).

He’d be out of GITMO in 3mos; SuperMax is far tougher.

Many people feel sad for this murderer. https://solitarywatch.org/2011/05/05/americas-most-isolatd-federal-prisoner-describes-10220-days-in-extreme-solitary-confinement/
Why he is still sucking oxygen is beyond me.

I hope they isolate him. Otherwise, he’ll just run his gang from prison. Too bad there’s no death penalty for him. No telling how many people he has murdered. God protect the judge and jury who convicted him.

“As long as the United States military is functional, ADX will hold off a rescue squad long enough for the cavalry to get there. “

If someone tries a direct frontal assault. But that is the least likely way of an attempt to get someone out of a prison. Bad guys are more sophisticated than that. I would imagine their security is careful, but every guard and administrator has a pressure point.
America has never experienced the very spooky things done to people in power in the 3rd world.
