It’s already clear there was no crime. Certainly not a crime as he described it. Going to be interesting to see the coverage (or lack thereof) going forward.

Back at the beginning it was rumored to be child porn, but that’s not certain.....................

Its already clear there was no crime. Hmmm ... it's starting to be a reasonable thought that he may have committed one or more crimes, and that evidence thereof resides on his phone.

He would have been smart to let this thing drop.
“oops I lost that phone the next day in the Chicago River”
Now, he is going to charged with filing a false report to the police if not worse.

Fake hate crimes serve the purpose of ‘keeping conservatives in their place’.
It's the same tactic democrats used against blacks with ‘black face’ in the Jim Crow South - kept blacks in their place by propping up hateful stereotypes... same as democrats use against us today.
Conservatives should bring a class action lawsuit against this creep and the press that carried the hoax as if it was true...

If he turns in the real thing, he has dug himself a wonderful false testimony trap.

What they ought to do is seize his phone, but they probably won’t because it is too hot politically.

This is all just smoke and mirrors.
Law enforcement agencies readily get the info they need for investigations via the following and other court orders/subpoenas:
https://www.fcc.gov/public-safety-and-homeland-security/policy-and-licensing-division/general/communications-assistance
CALEA is not the friend of individual liberty, but it sure serves a purpose.
The individual cannot even PRODUCE the depth of detail that the carrier can. I mean look at your bill and call detail record online. That’s 25% of what the carrier knows. Plus if he uses most any google app, there’s location data equivalent to bread crumbs with date/time stamps.
This public debate about records is specious.
