House Democrats reportedly will not strip Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) of her committee assignments after she apologized for tweets suggesting that American lawmakers were motivated to defend Israel by money.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told Roll Call that "of course" Democrats would not strip Omar of committee assignments like Republicans did to Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa.) after he questioned how terms like "white supremacy" became offensive.
“I don’t think she’s anti-Semitic,” Hoyer reportedly said. “She did apologize. The key will be that when we make a mistake like that, conscious or unconscious, that we don’t repeat it. That will be the proof of the pudding.”
House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) also reportedly said he doesn’t think extra action is needed given Omar apologized.
Omar is currently on the House Foreign Affairs, Education and Labor committees.
The freshman lawmaker sparked backlash Sunday when she retweeted journalist Glenn Greenwald responding to a story about House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) promising "action" against her and fellow Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) over their critical views on Israel.
"It's all about the Benjamins baby," Omar tweeted.
Omar then tweeted that the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) was paying American politicians to support Israel.
She apologized Monday for using "anti-Semitic tropes, but stood by her criticism of AIPAC.
"At the same time, I reaffirm the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA or the fossil fuel industry. It's gone on too long and we must be willing to address it," Omar wrote.
House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (La.) was the only Republican House leader to explicitly call for her to be removed from committee assignments.
"Good that some Dems have condemned the disgraceful anti-Semitic remarks of Rep. Omar — but their words are empty unless Dem leaders remove her from the Foreign Affairs Committee. No one with her anti-Semitic views should be allowed to represent US foreign policy on that committee," he said in a tweet.

She’s not anti-Semitic, she just supports killing Jews who dare to live in their ancestral home, and condemns Jews who practice their faith.
Dems want as many of her type as they can get.
The Rats are doing a calculation how many Jews will we lose going one way versus how many muzzies going the other. What is right or wrong is not relevant.
