Before Northam, Democrats Didn’t Just Dress Up as Klansmen
American Spectator ^ | February 3, 2019 | Daniel J. Flynn

When Virginia Governor Ralph Northam endorsed fourth-trimester abortions last week, nobody called for his resignation. His decision 35 years ago to masquerade, either in blackface or as a Klansman — which malefaction against taste Northam engaged in seems unclear — offends modern sensibilities to such a degree that his party, his predecessor, and nearly every presidential wannabe says he should step down. This says something more about us than him.

Democrats did not always exhibit a zero-tolerance policy toward dressing up in white sheets. They once, at least in some parts of the country, demanded it from candidates.

In 1924, the Democratic National Convention rejected, by a single vote, a resolution condemning the Ku Klux Klan. The nation’s most prominent Democrat, William Jennings Bryan, used his considerable rhetorical gifts to shamefully aid the nos. “My friends,” the three-time presidential nominee told the convention, “it requires more courage to fight the Republican Party than it does to fight the Ku Klux Klan.”

The KKK was a part of the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party promoted racial hatred and racial violence. The KKK was the enforcement arm of the party.

The Dems replaced their KKK muscle with ANTIFA.

The KKK was the enforcement arm of the party.

And the NRA armed recently freed slaves so that they could defend themselves from the Klan. To this day the demokkkrats still hate the NRA for that.

Good point. Where did they get the Klan uniforms? Was it from the local Goodwill store or from their own closets? Either one is rather...awkward.

Not one reference to Senator Byrd during all this rhetoric.

Everyone in Virginia will now have to undergo ‘sensitivity training’ so the coonman can keep his job.

When reparations are instituted, will democrats be reimbursed for slaves they were forced to give up in 1865?

The VA dems are backing down from impeachment as of this morning, since the alleged sex attacks took place out of state.

He’ll now discriminate against whites to atone, take down all the statues.Yeah that will surely lead to harmony and bliss. Media sucks for playing along with the Democrats calling for “zero tolerance” to bash Republicans with, until it bit THEM in the ass.Now its Emily Latella NEVERMIND.

“Where does this put Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, who used the “n” word, regarded aboriginal Australians as “a step higher than the chimpanzee in brain development,” and addressed a KKK gathering, in the pantheon of progressive saints?”

It puts her in the Tucson Republican Women’s Club, where she was a bigwig.

The American euthanasia movement has roots among members of the Republican Party. Oops.

Fools do love to get in the mud with liberals and try to fight them on their terms.

It is only wrong if a Republican does it. If a democrat is involved, he brazens it out and the party looks the other way. Look at the Clinton-Lewinsky thing for example.

A few years ago, I watched the TV miniseries King, with Paul Winfield as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It began with King planning to go to Memphis to deal with the sanitation works situation there (the earlier part of his story is a flashback). He was watching a southern politician on TV who was blasting King as a black trouble maker. The politician was Byrd.
