Apparently the no-see-ums and mosquitoes here in Florida did not get the memo. Will gladly send some to The Guardian.

That being said, about the only bug I no longer see down here is the firefly. I haven't seen a firefly in at least 30 years. :(

A few years ago i was walking down a nature trail soon after dusk on Cape Cod and there were literally 1000’s of fireflies all over the place it was absolutely amazing.
Even my dog was amazed lol.
Never seen anything like it..

I have definitely seen fewer insects splatted on the windshield. Thirty years ago, I would wipe down the windshield at every gas stop in the summer. No need now.

Fireflies are doing well in NJ but the first ones are coming out a month earlier than they used to, still in small numbers.

Honeybee numbers, way down. When I was a child a clover lawn would have a couple bees every square foot. Now you can walk barefoot without looking.

We used to have toads. My guess is that the deer population and the destruction of the woodland floor is responsible, rather than insecticides.

Come to my house in the summer and you will see a whole bunch of them.

Fireflies need standing water to reproduce and long grass to hid in during the day.

In built up places you get fined for having both of those things in your yard.

Chemlawn ended the fireflies. Along with the monthly fertilier is a strong dose of insecticide.
