The White House said Sunday it cannot rule out another government shutdown as it gets mixed signals from Democrats and Republicans racing a Friday deadline to fund President Trumps border-wall demands and keep federal operations humming.
White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said proposed funding is all over the map and that Democrats are pushing to cap the number of detainee beds for people who cross into the U.S. illegally, causing talks to stall.
The government shutdown is still on the table. We do not want it to come to that, but that option is still open to the president and will remain so, White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney told Fox News Sunday.
Mr. Trump, whose demands for wall money led to a monthlong shutdown, said Democrats must shoulder blame if funding lapses again. He said theyre not offering anything near the $5.7-billion he says is needed for his barrier with Mexico, while raising unnecessary hurdles.
They are offering very little money for the desperately needed Border Wall & now, out of the blue, want a cap on convicted violent felons to be held in detention! he tweeted Sunday.

The weeping and wailing from the gov workers will be a sight to behold. Looking forward to seeing how Trump is planning to play it, and how it works out.
Good Grief. Talk about bogging down on minutiae. It's just the normal Dem stall tactic. Whether you have one bed or 10,000 beds or 100,000 beds isn't going to stop the 5 million who plan to enter illegally in 2019. A wall and a heavy armed guard presence on the border will make them think twice.
go ahead agree with the rats, but just put the criminal overflow in gitmo
In before the pearl clutchers.
did they set aside any money from recent check? [HA!]
Why are the gov’t workers weeping? It is a free vacation with full pay, just that the paychecks are delayed a bit.
The shutdown did not end, it took a break so people could get a paycheck...this was explained clearly at the time.
The media is trying for a “Trump causes a second shutdown” headline.
Breaktime is just about over.
And he should not hesitate to use all the leverage he can but at the end of the day the rats will never capitulate.
I hope he has a plan to keep ATC and other essential services on the job better than this last time. If it were up to me I’d militarize the jobs.
After Mulvaney’s comments this morning it seems pretty clear that Trump is maneuvering the Dems onto a corner: he’s going to say here are my options, I will build the wall with or without you. I’d like to have your help, and you can share part of the credit. Otherwise I will do it a different way, perfectly legal of course, and you will be perceived as obstructionists who failed to put American citizens first.
I agree...Mulvaney dropped a strong message and I believe Presidnt Trump will just that.
Lets wrap this Freepathon up, Folks!
We had a shutdown?
The only thing Nancy want from US citizens is she wants them to pay for her insanity
42 Mill want to enter any way they can from these third world S. holes.
Trump should announce that with a new shutdown the bureaucrats will receive no pay. Never!
O/T: Twitter thread said RBG was found unconscious in her home...
If Trump doesnt keep the government shutdown while he proceeds with a National Emergency, not one inch of new wall will get built over the next two years because a judge will grant and injunction AND RULE THAT TRUMP CONCEEDED THAT A WALL FUNDING NATIONAL EMERGENCY NO LONGER EXISTS AFTER A TRUMP SIGNS A HOME LAND SECURITY SPENDING BILL CONTAINING NO WALL FUNDING OR EVEN ONE DOLLAR OF WALL FUNDING.
Trump better force the demturds and RINOS to override a veto on any Homeland Security funding bill that contains less than $5.7 billion in wall funding if he thinks a National Emergency is going to succeed because Trump is already on the record that only $5.7 billion of wall funding he is necessary to avoid a national emergency! If he signs any spending bill with less, the courts will rule Trump conceeded only the lesser amount was required to avoid a National Emergency. If your GOPE helps override his veto, the court will hold Congress has determined no valid basis for a National Emergency over wall funding exist even if the approved funding was $0 or $1.
Bet all rooms are padded.
