We desperately need Northam to be leading VA rats in the legislative election this November. Having a Black Governor that could gin up Black turnout would be bad.
Apparently the last VA Governor to resign was Whig Thomas W. Gilmer, who quit after winning a seat in US House. Other than the removal of the Confederate Governor at the end of the Civil War and following Reconstruction era military Governors, there has not been any irregular succession since, the single terms being a big reason for this, though they really beat the odds with no Governor dying.
Larry Sabato says every other state had had a Governor die or resign during this time and I haven’t checked but I’m sure he’s right.
If Fairfax succeeds he’d be able to run for reelection as Governor in 2021. This scandal could end up helping the rats in the long term. Makes me think it was rats who leaked this photo immediately after Northam damaged himself with that infanticide endorsement to pave the way for the new Black Governor, who if he doesn’t fall on his face could be a 2024 rat Pres candidate. Dems scandals that don’t actually hurt the dems really piss me off. This could end up being nothing to laugh about or celebrate for VA Republicans.
A vacancy in the office of LT Gov would apparently be filled by special special, possibly as late as this November. There was one in Nov 1971 when the LT Governor had passed away during the summer, the office staying vacant for months.

Your reasoning is exactly why Northam is having all of his Dem support pulled. Even Planned Parenthood has called for him to resign .... Fairfax is as extreme as Northam on the baby killing so there’s no loss for PP there (well, maybe some moolah down the toilet, but they seem to have plenty to throw around).
My only hope is that Eric Holder friend, baby killer, gun grabbing Fairfax will be extreme/offensive enough that maybe there will be an “Obama effect” (such as put Trump in the Presidency) & we’ll have a slim chance at holding the Senate, maybe (unlikely - not holding my breath) make some headway with the House of Delegates. As an incumbent, unless Fairfax is horrible enough to offend Dems (happened with Northam ... you never know in politics!), he’ll be elected for his own term after finishing out Northam’s.
It all STINKS, pure and simple. From Northam/Dems throwing the race/bigotry card all over the Commonwealth during the campaign, winning, now this mess, and the aftermath.
