A series of prominent Democrats demanded Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's resignation on Friday, excoriating him for appearing in a racist yearbook photo showing one person dressed in blackface and another in the KKK's signature white hood and robes.
The calls came from a number of 2020 presidential candidates, members of Congress and prominent liberal organizations, all of whom said Northam's apology on the issue was not enough. The NAACP also called for Northam to leave office. Those calls, however, were not echoed by Virginia Democrats, including Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner. Both said they were shocked and offended by the photos, but in separate statements both said it was time for the governor to think about what comes next for him and to listen to those he has offended. Northam, for his part, has vowed to finish his one and only term as Virginia governor, issuing a video statement on Friday evening where he apologized but pledged to remain in office.

Well, I’ve always said that Democrats believe racism [perceived] is a capital crime but mass murder is not even a misdemeanor...I guess this proves it.
I doubt it. If they had more than the open-mike locker room lame comment about celebrities can grab a women's crotch with impunity, it would be out there by now. The left always refers to that as if Trump said he did that. I've seen the clip many times and we was referring to celebrities in general. As we've seen with Weinstein, Spacy, and other celebs, his comment is a truism.

Definitely a possibility - though now I hear he’s saying the one thing that MIGHT save his job - it wasn’t him. I suspect powerful people told him in no uncertain terms that he had no choice but to resign, and this is the last possible loophole. There is simply no way he stays in office if he’s in that picture; it would demolish the Dems race-baiting strategy completely.

Gillespie seems to have hired one of the most incompetent campaign staffs in history. They may have been "well regarded" establishment consultants, but how did they manage to miss this??? Especially since the essence of Northam's campaign was, "Ed Gillespie is a racist, and I'm not!"
I'd question whatever advice he gave as counselor to GWB from 2007 to 2009 -- while Bush's approval numbers fell to levels lower than the bottom of the Marianas Trench. Whatever it was, it didn't work very well.
Even if it wasn't him in the picture, it was his yearbook page, and he already apologized for it. I dunno if anything can save him now. Question is how long will he twist in the wind. The longer the better.
Hope he keeps resisting -- at least through the SOTU on Tuesday.
I'm beginning to think that the only way to run for political office now is to somehow have all history erased between birth and age 35. (Kinda like Obama mysteriously managed to do.) How many people didn't do or say anything stupid when they were young?
I understand your sentiment, but there are some things people SHOULD know about candidates’ younger days. This photo is one (it wasn’t taken in 1950), and Otoken’s photo with Farrakhan is another. Draft-dodging and crimes in particular should be known to voters, though it is clear that more and more Americans don’t even care - look at some of our elected officials today.
WTF. So he did stupid sh!t when he was a teenager. For this, he should resign? Just apologize sincerely, and tell the Dems to GFTS.

If Northam stays, Virginia will go back to Republicans in 2020. Northam cannot effectively campaign for or endorse any Dem nominee with this hanging over his head & Trump will take full advantage of it.
