Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador declared an end to his country’s war on drugs Wednesday, announcing that the army would no longer prioritize capturing cartel bosses, Agence France-Press reports.
“There is officially no more war. We want peace, and we are going to achieve peace,” he said at a daily press briefing after being asked if his government had captured any kingpins since he assumed office in December.
“No capos have been arrested, because that is not our main purpose. The main purpose of the government is to guarantee public safety … What we want is security, to reduce the daily number of homicides.”

Mexico’s “war” against the drug cartels has been a sham for decades. Everyone knows that the cartels rather than the police or military call the shots in Mexico, so why not turn de facto into de jure?
Why would they kill him? He is exactly what they, the Cartels, want. But the killing will not stop, thus el presidente does not get what he is seeking.
Maybe he is getting out of the way of PDJT. Possible bombing runs on drug distributors by the US?

the war will still be going on daily, whether this guy calls it one or not.
Calling off the war with cartels is tantamount to switching sides.
Mexico just officially became a narco state. The cartels are now running the country.

Mexico lost control of it’s northern states a long time ago. The major cartels control them. I guess they got to this guy.
If there was ever a reason to build a wall, this is it.
We may need more than a wall if the whole county is in control of the Zetas.
