The county sheriff is the problem child among California elected officials. No office is less accountable or more reliable in producing scandal.

They are the only,ones with total countywide jurisdicion and the,only ones who can deputize citizens for help, and the only ones who can kick out federal agents.

2. sheriffs provide the basic policing services in the vast unincorporated areas of most counties...(plus, by contract, the same for some incorporated cities and towns)
3. sheriffs (at least in Californication) provide the policing, guard services for the county jails
4. sheriffs (in CA) provide the guard services in the county court houses
5. sheriffs (in CA) provide certain specialized services like evictions of non-paying or destructive tenants
6. sheriffs provide judgement-collection assistance for successful plaintiffs in recovering monies due them
etc.
If someone wants to get rid of county sheriffs, s/he should explain alternative means of providing the above services?

I would fight tooth and nail to keep Diagostini here in El Dorado county. He is one Sheriff that believes in the 2nd Amendment and will not go quietly into the night.

Something else CA sheriffs do is approve/disapprove concealed-carry permits. Sheriffs in less enlightened rural counties actually approve most conceal carry applications. Sheriffs in more progressive counties approve only permits for connected politicians (like Dianne Feinstein) or Hollywood celebrities. This is why the office of sheriff has to go.
That and the fact that some actually want to follow Federal law over immigration rather than state law—”treason against the state of California” indeed.

The sheriff of Tulare county is great - grants concealed carries and appropriately placed the blame for an illegal murdering his citizens on the sanctuary city law -that’s why they want them gone.

And the Feds are the least of your problems in CA. The feds are the ones that want to get the illegals.

The writer had to reach really really low and stupid to come up with that. How, if anyone knows, can a citizen commit treason against a State?
So abolishing Congress is next?
The problem is liberalism. They will destroy every institution of government with time, especially any entity that does not kowtow and back their leftist policies. Just like with the Presidential mandate, they disparage the people who voted for the official. They aren’t happy unless the sheriff is a politically appointed hack.
