I wonder if that’s what’s going there.

I’ve noticed a number of newspaper and radio station sites have disabled comments in the past few years.

The liberals who run those sites just couldn’t understand the many pro conservative, pro Trump, anti liberal party line comments, could they??

Typical liberal response. They can’t control the commentary from readers, so the response is just to shut it down.

I think the only exception may be Yahoo. I see it from time to time as the Trumpers overwhelm the threads if a lib article pops up. LAT started to shut down the comments section for local news a year ago because they knew the readers would ALWAYS post something “FR-ish”..

The main problem was having to monitor comments for foul-mouthed attention seekers. Too little bang for the buck.
